Either way, y'all really think she's going to risk her bar license to steal a couple pieces of meat from Calandros?

Meh. A good lawyer would probably remember that intentionally concealing, on the person or otherwise, goods for sale is listed as the first action that may be used to infer intent to commit theft of goods.

Louisiana Revised Statutes

Now, I'm not saying she had intent, but hyperbole, exaggeration, and assumption of intent can cut both ways when actions are being judged.

Did Gravy make a FB video about this in his car in his mom's driveway yet?

Why can't she just use the store's shopping carts or hand baskets, I don't know, like everyone else on fricking earth when they shop at a grocery store? Have the bag boy then use your Trader Joe's bag when you check out.

Who brings another store's bag to put groceries in BEFORE they even check out? She knew exactly what to say.

I thought that's what carts and baskets were for??

Intentionally concealing groceries... in a grocery bag.

That's funny.

You've never seen someone bring their own bags into a store? Fairly common with the hipster / ecofriendly crowd.

Lots of old people. And lost of young greeners

The media needs an education in what "going viral" really means. This gets thrown around all too often. Having 199 people react to a Facebook post hardly qualifies. Sensational journalism at its finest I guess.

Sounds like a good night to go grocery shopping. The "NO EBT" is one of the main reasons I don't mind paying more to shop there.

Yes but only after they have paid for them - then they can use their own bags.

She may have forgotten to get the meat.

Sure in which care any reasonable person would know it looks suspicious and deliberately go out of their way to not make it look so.

I lived in an area that banned plastic bags and everyone brought their own. However, I can't recall ever seeing people use those bags in place of a hand basket or cart.

Read her Facebook post in the 1st post of this thread, dummy. She states that she had already bought these items.

As someone mentioned already, this may not be entirely true, but it's her words. Surely a prominent attorney such as herself would get this detail correct?

Yes, I've seen people bring their own bag--for bagging when they check out--not while they're shopping. If she did this at TJ's, fine, but she's not at TJ's, she's at Calandro's.

I went to law school with Lani. While I have no standing on this board, and you'll take it however you please, she is one of kindest, most mild-mannered, and intelligent people I know. She is a genuinely good person and wouldn't steal anything, regardless of circumstance.

I know her. I know the family she comes from. As someone pointed out, with her educational level and background, this is the absolute last thing that would happen. I'm not one to cry racism, but after Calandro's apology I'm amazed that some of you are still say her treatment was justified.

As for her lack of a comment, she's been saying the same thing to her friends for over a week now. I'm not surprised in the least that she didn't want to make a comment to a reporter.
