I started this thread thinking that Russia was an emerging threat and we'd have about 10 years before having to face a real threat from them. However, after doing further research into just how scaled back NATO is now. I'd say that if Russia were to muster it's full strength and attack Europe, They'd at least overrun Poland and probably most of Germany.

If the Russians did make a move and attacked Europe, it would be over long before we could even get in on the fight. As it stands now, at least from a ground forces standpoint, Europe is for all intents and purposes on it's own. Yeah we've got a token force in Europe and we could lift the 101st and maybe a marine task force to the ETO pretty quick. But even if we did this, two divisions alone cannot stem the tide that would be rolling west.

I partially do agree with you. surface ASW is still not where it needs to be. It probably wont ever be able to counter the advantages a well-designed submarine possesses.
I feel that the US Navy submarine arsenal is more than ready to take up the slack. I also believe SOSUS and the small sonar recon ships with towed arrays help.
In the cold war, we countered the USSR submarine fleet with superior tech AND numbers. I believe we can do so again if needed.
People today feel that modern warfare should be like going to the target range. We've been spoiled by Desert Storm and subsequent wars. The fact is that your opponent has a brain and it works just as well as you. There will be losses on both sides.

I think with the weak administration we have in place now and the constant cuts to our military Russian could be more of a threat than people realize.

I don't remember all the details but I do remember seeing a news story in the last few weeks where a top general said something along the lines of "if the requirements of passing combat arms training is too tough for females then the services need to justify why those standards need to be so high or lower them".... Something along those lines.
