There's a county up there where like 20 people voted and only one person voted Democrat.
I find that kinda funny and wonder what the dynamics are of that relationship.

Great places to scoop up cheap land and get the hell away from everybody

And? Is this supposed to be a revelation?

Idk these places seem pretty miserable. Even by voluntary isolation standards, it seems rough.

Yeah I'd be fine with rural living and having some land but barren brush and tornadoes isn't quite what I had in mind

This is the model for the country. People move to cities and become democrats.

If a prime Cybil Shepherd is there waiting for me it may be worth it.
I’ve been about as far north as Chester Texas. It’s at least got trees and woods to be in. But if you’re not deer hunting or preparing your deer camp/lease. I’d imagine other interesting things to do are pretty fricking scarce.
Farther north or west than that? Good lord. I just picture driving to Dallas. Everything you see 90 mins short of Dallas. That’s where you will be staying. Good luck. Perhaps you’ll get a McDonalds.

When driving down from Denver headed to Amarillo after you get of the I-25 at Raton Pass and onto US-87 there is a long stretch of tiny little dead towns one after another. They might not even register in your mind except the speed limit drops from 65 down to 35 in increments. The area is flat and you only see the occasional tree or scrub line except around the dead towns. It is one thing to live in an isolated area where the views are gorgeous another to live in an area that looks like mother nature packed up and left with everyone else.

Need more ratios like that nation wide.

Capulin Volcano is beautiful though.
I remember driving that stretch and trying to find a place to stop for lunch and I ended up just driving though instead all the way to Dalhart, TX before stopping. Just nothing out there.

This guy, Lord Spoda has done a bunch of these videos. Check out Kansas, Oklahoma, Lafayette La and New Mexico etc. He ain't driving through LA to find the run down hood any time soon.

I’m originally from a small place like this in west Texas. Lived near Amarillo for just over a decade and worked in agriculture so I know these towns and counties well. Great people and if you are just driving through on your way to skiing in CO you might think little to nothing of these places but the folks in or around these towns are supplying America with food. Yeah maybe not the life your most of y’all but most of them enjoy it as they are a good distance from cities with their problems. They certainly aren’t asking for anyone’s pity.
