I ruptured my bicep distal tendon two weeks ago (the tendon connecting bicep to forearm). The injury was pretty painless, felt like someone punched me in the arm. I've had the surgery to re-attach it. That was also pretty painless.
I start PT in a week. I got a feeling it's gonna suck majorly.
Funny thing is, my bicep does not hurt, and the area of the operation (just below crook of the elbow) does not hurt.
What hurts is everything just below the incision site, all the way to the hand. My forearm muscle is tender just to the touch.

How bad is this PT gonna suck?

Doesn’t sound like it’s gonna be too bad for you. Prob sore more than pain

What’s your outlook? I had a buddy have pretty much the same thing happen and the doctor told him he’d permanently lose about 10% of the strength in that arm.

10% after re attachment or did he not have it reattached?

My doctor said in time, it will be 100%. I could have opted not to have it reattached, possibly losing up to 50% strength in that arm.

Ruptured the one across your elbow or one of the two coming down from your shoulder?

The surgery was painless and quick. I remember being rolled into surgery at 6:55 am. I was home eating Chik-fa-la breakfast at 10:00 am.

I was at the mall two hours later shopping with the family.

Got mine reattached at the shoulder and the PT was hell. After 6 weeks I lost feeling in my hand so I ended up having nerve issues as well. Good Luck!

I had the surgery Feb 20 from a complete tear and my surgeon told me PT was optional and gave me a basic guideline to follow. I'm gonna be at 100% by the end of the year without question. My deadlifts are already back in the 500 range.

Just don't push yourself too hard man, it's very easy to destroy everything your surgeon did. It's a really frustrating recovery but there's light at the end of the tunnel.

ETA: mine was distal, same as OP. This is the procedure I had

I had the exact same injury 3 years ago. Rehab was fine, arm is 100% back. I work out regularly and have no problems. I don't blast the biceps anymore though, all my bicep stuff is moderate weight/moderate rep.and resistance band work. Just follow your PT instructions and don't rush it.

Does the hand pain radiate to the first three digits or the 4th/5th? Or the whole hand? Any numbness? Possibly some nerve compression/irritation from the swelling from the surgery.

No pain in the fingers, but the thumb is still numb. The pain (or tenderness) stops right at the wrist.

He had it reattached. I think there was also tissue damage to the bicep muscle tissue itself. Not completely ruptured, but a tear.
