But his house still stands at the top of Arlington Cemetary. Whatever reason they left it there, must be good.

The people represented by these memorials and statues were much better people than the assholes responsible for having them removed. I was very close to my grandmother growing up. Her father was in the 34th. Alabama. My grandparents grew up around Confederate veterans. Looking at the grave markers of these veterans shows that they were very proud of their service. And I am proud of them.

Lee, in the meantime, stood by, and frequently enjoined Williams to lay it on well, an injunction which he did not fail to heed; not satisfied with simply lacerating our naked flesh, Gen. Lee then ordered the overseer to thoroughly wash our backs with brine, which was done.
