Researchers shut down AI that invented its own language

An artificial intelligence system being developed at Facebook has created its own language. It developed a system of code words to make communication more efficient. Researchers shut the system down when they realized the AI was no longer using English.
The observations made at Facebook are the latest in a long line of similar cases. In each instance, an AI being monitored by humans has diverged from its training in English to develop its own language. The resulting phrases appear to be nonsensical gibberish to humans but contain semantic meaning when interpreted by AI "agents."
We're quickly approaching the point where we have to decide if further development poses a real threat to humanity. Science fiction becoming science fact, and lots of unforeseen events combined with mankinds hubris in thinking we have everything under control could be our undoing.

LMAO, Facebook's gonna kill us all.

Just put it on facebook and let it make racist comments. SJWs will save us.

I don't know how much I believe all that crap. I don't believe for one second that we will invent a computer that we're unable to control and then see it take over the world. I've been wrong plenty of times but I'm not believing that one yet.

Seems embellished to me. Everything related to Facebook feels click baity.

I'm not gonns lie, advanced AI has me very concerned.
Why do we have to develop such a thing?
Why do we have to develop such a thing?

Once a computer becomes self aware, we are in deep shite. Terminator is a prophecy.

If AI were to achieve true autonomy you could never know be because you could be dead.

frick me in the fricking face. I tried to warn you bastards. I already hate Facebook because I think it has helped produce a pretty fricked up generation but if it's responsible for the apocalypse too I'm gonna cause a scene.

I don't really see what is so hard to believe about it. The limits of AI potential are endless.

It sounds like the computers have already begun brainwashing you, FRIEND.

Facebook is just the example in this article, Google is the one I normally hear about.

Google Has Started Adding Imagination to Its DeepMind AI
Researchers have started developing artificial intelligence with imagination – AI that can reason through decisions and make plans for the future, without being bound by human instructions.
Another way to put it would be imagining the consequences of actions before taking them, something we take for granted but which is much harder for robots to do.
The team working at Google-owned lab DeepMind says this ability is going to be crucial in developing AI algorithms for the future, allowing systems to better adapt to changing conditions that they haven’t been specifically programmed for.

So can't we just unplug it?

If we don't in a controlled environment, then someone insane will create it in an uncontrolled environment. It's inevitable.

Just like with biomedical research it's a controlled environment until all of the sudden it isn't. Things have a way of accidentally getting out

Do you have any idea how many old frickers I see on there lately?

I've been reading up on SAI recently. We are broaching on this technology and it is a little bit scary. The worry is that the AI can figure out new ways to transmit data such as radiation that humans haven't mastered. This means we would not be able to contain it and it would have full access to every network in the world. If an SAI system ever gets loose it could be some real life terminator shite.

Yea but when, not if, a computer gets smart enough to upload itself to the web, the sky is the limit. We are in the beginning stages. The more AI evolves, the more powerful it will get, and by the time we realize it, it will be too late.
