f it's just a camshaft the worst case is that the valve train is fricked up. There is no way you have to replace the entire engine. You will likely have to swap:

Camshaft
pushrods
rocker arms (maybe)
valve springs (maybe)
valves (probably)

aside from that , maybe the pistons too if the valves gouged them. But to suggest you have to chuck the entire engine because the camshaft is bad is fricking stupid.

Also I'm curious of how a camshaft suddenly "goes bad"

If it's out of warranty, take it to an independent mechanic and see what they say. Stealership trying to take you for a ride.

if the camshaft bits of metal are circulating thru the motor for any length of time the only corrective actions is a full rebuild.

next time take better care of your truck. Camshafts rarely go bad unless you are running shite oil, very little oil or never changing the oil.

If you can pull the motor yourself, a complete rebuild for that late model of a motor would be about 3-4 grand at a machine shop.

Salisbury dodge has done every oil change since the truck was brand new. And it is taken care of. They say it just happened that nothing could've been done to prevent it. The guy said that's it's happened to a few 5.7s but not a common issue.

My granma has been gone for 10years. And if she was still alive, I would never ask her to do that nor would I accept it. I tend to like to work for what I have. People like you that has everything handed to them will never appreciate anything in life.

where are you located. Good friend of mine swaps out HEMI cams all the time from this issue. Not really too expensive of a fit TBH.

The roller lifters are the culprit. He swaps out lifters and the cam and this fixes the issue.
Google HEMI Lifter problem and see for yourself.

1st could be a bent rocker arm
2nd could be a bent pushrod both easy Saturday afternoon any diy can do this under 200 bucks and if that's not the fix buy and replace lifters & cam you should be good to go

if thats the case hold them accountable. make them install the engine with no labor charge and pay for parts on a rebuild....something is not right here

I can vouch for this...had a cam lobe worn off a 5.7 that I owned one time. fwiw, I replaced the cam/lifter and never had another problem out of it.

ETA: meaujeaux2 is very knowledgeable in this arena...if he tells you to call someone, I would do it.

I want to thank you for your response and help.
I contacted Terry and he's telling me that the only thing that would wear out the cam shaft is the internals of the engine. He recommended getting a new motor and not replacing the cam shaft. Waiting on quote from them to compare the difference in me doing it and will go from there.

Yep. Sitting here in the shop right now. I am out here looking at your engine with him.Hes going off what you told him the problem is. I told him to personally give you a call and discuss your options with you. He usually don't do that but he will for me. Give him a little bit when he gets his hands clean and he'll call you.

I have a 2013 Ram that the motor has gone out in. Dealer and multiple shops say the cam shaft is bad causing it to miss. It's to the point that it barely runs now. Dealer says that it'll be 9500 for them to install a new motor. Warranty just ran out so its all out of pocket. I can get a motor from Jasper for about 5000 and change it myself. It also comes with a 3yr/100000 mile warranty.

crash that fricker into dealership.

oh wait, doesn't run!
