I don't fear it. I've done every opiate and benzo there is and I basically require Xanax to live. That doesn't make it a good idea to start taking. The problem is it gives the most euphoria so using it as prescribed becomes hard, it also builds your tolerance way faster than a tamer benzo like Ativan. Really everyone with general anxiety should just be inducted on Klonopin because it has very little to no euphoric properties and last a long time:

OP, you probably have some other stressors in your life that you may not realize and it's affecting you. Your situation is common and usually not a permanent thing. I go through times where I can't hold a conversation with my own family hardly and get worried but it usually shakes out. Just depending on the different stresses going on in life at the time and learning how to cope with it all. I handle it all much better now.

The first step is recognizing the problem, and you've done that. You've also said you can run the subject into the ground. Are you strongly opinionated? Do you have your mind made up at the beginning of the conversation? If so, when a conversation starts, it's not up to you to set everyone else straight. Don't be that guy. As said before, listen more and consider the other person's opinion. Grow into a better person by seeing a bigger picture than what you've structured in life. Be kind, and give others the benefit of the doubt.

I've taken xanax. I just hate the way it makes me feel the next day when I drink something, it's in like the back of my throat and chest area. (I know this is a weird reason but it's the honest truth.) I have a bad case of passivity. What are good ways to get over this hump? I've always been an opinionated and insightful guy, just been in a rut lately that I can't seem to get out of.

I understand, I agree about what you said on SSRIs. I don't take xanax much, none now. I went through about a 6 month period where I'd take it maybe once a day and never had issues with it. I'd have about a 30 minute period of drowsiness but that's about it.

Eta: by no means am I saying go and get on xanax btw

This is going to sound lame as hell, but in lieu of more consistent social interaction, be more active on this site or other communities. It won't help any underlying problems, but I know a bunch of dudes who work constantly, may/may not have families, and just get rusty socially because their time is consumed with family/work/life. They don't talk to their buddies as much and when they do you have to ease back into it before it is like the old days.

Even it is consists of jokes and shite talking, it's better than nothing. Preferably use it to talk sports or politics or whatever you want to be able to trot out in real life. Mental stimulation is needed to keep you from growing dull. That's true for anyone. If you're not getting that with your friends, try getting it somewhere else. If you really want to push yourself, do Toastmasters or something.

When you say drink something on xanax are you talking alcohol? If so, don't do that. Are you dealing with any other new stresses in life at this time? Work, school, kids? I know this sounds dumb question, are you dealing with anxiety really bad also? Breathing techniques help more than you can imagine and stop trying to figure out why you are doing like you are. You may know what causes it, but stop trying to figure out why it's causing it, you'll put yourself in a dark arse hole doing that.

I just really caution people not to start taking benzos with Xanax. You really don't want to be like me and have to take minimum 3-4 mgs daily just to live, 5-6 to feel normal, and since I've been on it for so long 7 to get any real relief.

Well. Keep kicking that can down the road I guess. You're allowed to grow up from "how you were raised."

In lieu of professional (read: real) help, go for a run, lift some weights, break a sweat. Knocking the dust off physically can have a strong effect doing the same mentally.

Geez, yea, people have to be careful with it. I would only recommend looking into it as a last resort. Why do you have to take it to live? You mean just to live happily, or withdrawals will harm you?

This makes it sound like you're hearing the person, but not listening to them. You sound distracted.

Running is a good suggestion. Sports or working out releases dopamine which is a natural way to do what these medicines do basically. Still if you are really depressed you should go to the doctor,

When I say drink something, it's not while on xanax, it's the morning after when I drink my daily fluids after I brush my teeth. I usually drink 1-2 bottles of water after I get up (not like chugging it just casual throughout the rest of my day).

Both. I'm definitely physically dependent on benzos just like I am opiates. I take methadone everyday to deal with opiate addiction because that was also mental. I've been on benzos ever since I got back from Afghanistan at 20 7 years ago. It was never an addiction like opiates though. Have to take it to get anything done and to not have panic attacks almost daily.

I see, I never had that issue. Drinking water is good like you do though. Good luck, if it wasn't a problem in the past, you'll come out of this though at some point. Unless there was some catastrophic incident that's affecting you, if so, I'm sure you'd have already mentioned that though.

I'm 25 but I've been in a long relationship since high school and recently haven't been hanging out with friends because of the conversation problem. I thought it was just this one group of friends so I moved to hanging out with this other group and it happened again and now it's with every mother fricker I talk to. Even my family, it's crazy. I often find myself distracted but it's because I'm always thinking to myself about irrelevant shite or thinking to myself about why the frick I'm being so awkward in that specific moment. I've become a pro at hearing people's under their breathe comments about me being an awkward frick and I start over thinking EVERYTHING and start thinking everything they say is a subliminal message to frick with my head.

Man, well I see why you warn against them. I really don't even know what else to say on all that. I started getting anxiety at my fire dept job, we run ambulance also. Just had first child and worked a wreck where entire family, 2 kids involved where killed. A week later, worked a kid getting run over. Slowly starting not long afterwards started having anxiety attacks and prescribed Paxil and xanax. Quit Paxil after a month b/c it was aweful. Did xanax for 6 months and got off but as time went on my anxiety got a lot better. Had never had issues before all that, at that time I was late 20s.
