get a retired greyhound.
family friendly dog: they are naturally very quiet. sleep a lot. most will just lay there unless they are hungry or need to go out. when you want to pet them, pet them. otherwise, they are independent and happy just sleeping. also a gentle giant. we've had 2-3 year old neices and nephews attempting to hug them, ride them like a horse, climb on them. nothing. just stands there staring at you like, "please help".
medium to large size dog: the females weigh 80-90lbs. the males weigh 85-100lbs.
Shedding - they don't shed. and they also don't have that typical "dog smell". we wash our girl maybe once a month unless we take her to the park and she gets covered in mud.
Small Yard - a greyhound really only wants to run/play for 10-15 minutes a day. then would be completely happy inside laying on a dog bed the rest of the day. but when let loose at a park and that competitive spirit kicks in. it's hella fun to watch. faster than any dog in the park, not even close.
you would contact a greyhound rescue agency. they'll interview you and your family. you'll pay $400-500. which is still waaaay cheaper than most purebred dogs with papers. they'll have you and your family over, let you play with a few they have there. then they will select the best dog for you and your family.
small drawbacks:
- extremely sensitive stomach
- need an SUV to travel with. due to bone structure they can't lay or sit like other dogs.
whatever quiz that is. all the answers you should be completely thrown out if vizsla was included as a possible match. we also have a 11 month old vizsla girl. She DOES NOT match any of your needs. endless endless endless energy. needs a large yard or piece of property. we run ours probably 6-8 miles a week. and after a 2 mile run, she's ready to go another 5. she sheds. she has a dog smell. she must be kept in a kennel at night. she tears up toys, dog beds, and pretty much anything other than furniture and clothes.
the sweetest dog in the world. and is obsessed with us. extremely loyal. but be seriously prepared to spend a ton of time with them training, cleaning up, exercising them, and playing with them. Also, your yard will become a mud pit and nothing but holes. and ours isn't a one off. they are all like this. our greyhound is trained on a military level. when we say piss, she squats even if she's pissing air. we've tried with the vizsla, but they have a mind of their own. but at the same time. is also a dog park freak. my 2 monsters will out run, chase, and fetch any dog in the park. she's an angel, but without the greyhound to be a role model, we would have lost our minds with her.
DO NOT GET A VIZSLA UNLESS YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU ARE GETTING INTO.

frick that shite. They mat and are assholes compared to goldens or labs.
I rather deal with shedding with a vacuum than pay for grooming
Get three goldens

Or, how about you find a good dog that needs a home regardless of breed?

Golden or an Aussie.
Seconded on a Roomba regardless.

plus formal training.
its a lot to ask a dog not to interact with other dogs.
take the kid too. let him/her be the one to do most of the training.

As you've described in the OP, I'm in with the other Boxer crowd. Those who have had one know just how loyal and downright funny they are. Great kid companions.

They actually do fit most his criteria, though animal aggression can occur if not socialized. Mine used to sleep with my old roommates 3 year old daughter whenever she stayed over. My only problem is the bullshite I feel with when trying to rent a new place.
I've been bringing my pit to work lately in the afternoons. Though she stays in the truck unless I have to go to my field trailer.
