Reccomend 3-5 Dog Breeds

The family is looking into getting a new pup for my youngest's 9th birthday. Shockingly, my wife and I can never come to an agreement on which breed we want.
What we're looking for:
-Family friendly dog. We'd like to be able to take the dog out for walks, to the park, running, stopping off for a drink/coffee without any issues with strangers/other animals.
-Medium to large size dog. We do agree that we'd prefer a bigger dog to a little one.
-Shedding...a little is to be expected, but we don't want a husky. My wife does do a good job of keeping the house clean with three kids and just doesn't want much more.
-We live in Chicago, but take advantage of the parks. We also have a smaller sized yard. Enough for a pup to stretch his/her legs, but we'd still take it on walks/to the park.
Suggestions ?

Goldendoodle
Labradoodle
Any combo of poodle with a medium dog will get you the size, temperament and shed issues covered.

Don't boxers shed quite a bit? My boyfriend and I were looking for one but they always had problems

There are a bunch of quizzes online that can help narrow it down for you.
Some people go with a pure bred dog. You can look at the AKC list of dogs to get an idea.
Some go with a puppy/dog mutt from a rescue shelter.
However, it's really going to depend on what YOU want.... and what breed will fit YOUR lifestyle.
For the most part, dogs are bred to do a specific job. Hunting, working, companionship.
If you put a dog in the wrong environment for its breed, it will give you trouble. So, just be mindful of that and set yourself up for success.

all of this depends on how you raise/train the dog, not necessarily the breed.

It's smaller dog but pretty hearty. Cairn or west highland terrier. Great little dog with a lot of personality.

No more than labs. We got a zoomgroom brush for ours and as long as we brush her once a week in summer months, shes good. The personality makes up for any shedding though.

Is this the thread where everyone says their own dog breed and claims that it is the best breed in the world and all other breeds suck?
I'm in: corgi. I have 2. Best dogs in the world, all other dogs suck.
