"Real men provide. Real women appreciate it": NC billboard sparks protests

It's just seven words long, but that's enough to start a firestorm: "Real men provide. Real women appreciate it."
A billboard containing those words sits along an interstate in North Carolina, and it's inflaming passions. Some people find the message sexist.
A group of those who don't like the billboard's message plan to hold a protest this weekend.
Molly Grace says she's never organized a protest before, but she's putting one together now after seeing the billboard earlier this week.
Grace, who owns a clothing and lifestyle store in Winston-Salem, says the point of the protest isn't to bring the billboard down (although she wouldn't be sad to see it go) but to rail against the message behind it.
"We are not protesting the right to have a billboard or express a message on it," she told CNN. "This is only a protest against the type of thinking that creates a message like that."
Grace, who took to Facebook to organize the protest, feels the message promotes patriarchy and sexism and an antiquated way of thinking about women.
"We are protesting the implied demand that women be silent and appreciate, regardless of whatever circumstances, their role as non-providers," she wrote in the post.
Or, as she later told CNN, that women should "shut up and smile and be grateful for what this man does for you."
If this world were to just self implode soon I would not be surprised. Maybe im sexist but I dont see a problem with it or sure as hell not enough problem that it should spark a protest.

Women sure have no problem flaunting what their man bought them on Facebook.

i mean do women not appreciate a man who provides? do they prefer a deadbeat?

I mean, it's an incredibly stupid bill board. My gf makes more money than me and if that means I'm not a "real man", so be it. I sure as frick don't mind it though.

As long as you're aware and comfortable with it, then good on you.

For real bruh. What if it reads "real men provide real women, appreciate it!".
Then they're just bragging about human trafficking.

I thought the message was more saying that real men should provide for their family. Also women, if your man is busting his arse be appreciative. I don't see where it says anything about women being incapable of providing. As men our biological, psychological, and sociological predisposition should be that of provider and protector.

stupid billboard is stupid.
it's probably some chick who's trying to get back at some other chick over a guy.

If I hear the word protest one more time, I'm going to kill a small animal.

I don't understand how people can get so upset over a stupid fricking sign that they waste energy on protesting.

It doesn't actually matter if she makes more.
If you contribute, you're providing. I'm sure your SO appreciates what you do bring in. If she doesn't, then there's something wrong with her.
My takeaway from the sign is that women should be more appreciative of good men out there who keep a straight edge and act responsibly. The sign doesn't say that women contribute nothing. It just says to be appreciative of men who do provide/contribute.
Also... "providing" doesn't always just mean money. It also means providing love, leadership, and support.

Damn, we just can't stay out trouble.
We want folks to piss in the correct bathroom, support your SO's, and be appreciative.
Buncha idiots up here.

Did you just threaten to harm an animal because you think your life is more valuable than his?
