You could simulate intoxication by having the correct pattern of neurons fire. You could even simulate the taste, I just wouldn't have to kill grapes.

Sounds like a total blast.

We don't need jokes or funny stories either, just fire off some neurons. Done. No punchline necessary.

Distilling the human experience down to its purist sense, simply feeling without the frivolous bullshite that's required to have that feeling. I'll take it.

Ya dickhead.

The interesting part is the "frivolous bullshite" not the feeling. Or better said, Life is the frivolous bullshite, not the feeling part.

We're cool if it's elective, but if Ray, OML and the ASI start forcing people in, that's where the gauntlet gets thrown.

Idealistically, with quantum computing we'll create like a 6x6 cube for the people tired of frivolous bs, and you guys can hang in there as a bunch of 1s and 0s. We'll make sure the power stays on. Or maybe make it solar and just let those that thing tumble through space Whatever works.

Mental health would be revolutionized. People with PTSD would just have those memories deleted.

It's a conversation that gets pretty interesting pretty quickly. Obviously I was being tongue-in-cheek with the "frivolous" comment. But if you examine all of our actions in a practical manner, there's an argument that it's all a means to an end of making those ones and zeros behave in desired patterns.

But those conversations are usually better if you're drinking or high, which I am. Ya dickhead.

Or we could maintain the memories and simply minimize their effects, or even turn them into positives. Once the brain is mapped and treated like a computer rather than a bubbling cauldron like we do now, there's all kinds of better treatment options. Ya dickhead.

Time would be better spent developing an anti-virus that works for a computer.

The most glorious thing ever created will destroy itself through self-aggrandizement.

Ray and OML could just be turned into switches of 1/0s and just fired off in a pattern.

Are you calling me crazy like Ray?

But honestly, the Singularity both terrifies and fascinates me. And barring tragedy, it's likely I'll live to see it, which is amazing that (for good or bad) I will see mankind create its greatest invention and something superior to ourselves. It will be the greatest breakthrough since cells first came to fruition on this planet.

That is also fricking terrifying. I have been writing a screenplay that is more the later of your two worst case scenarios in one corporation controlling the Singularity, which I do think is the most likely scenario from it. It is amazing and the scariest thing ever at the same time.

I thought we've done this already and we decided I was Mad Max-ing it in the desert against your Robot army?

Am I wrong there? I thought you were super pumped for the singularity?

I think anyone controlling it is way less likely than it being a thing on its own.

Which is why it's the end of the world to me.

I'm confused why these types of guys are excited about this? And why they aren't doing anything to stop this bullshite?

Well, it is the most significant thing since life first arrived on Earth, and it will in all likelihood happen in most of our lifetimes. Just because it's terrifying doesn't mean it's not exciting.

I am excited for what could be the benefits of it and the fact that it will be the most insane thing an organism has ever done on our planet. I am pumped and frightened at the same time.

My implication are that the corporation and the Singularity will be one in the same.

The only way the Singularity doesn't come into existence is if we all nuke ourselves to the stone ages.

If you look at geological dating of stone structures history says are a few thousand years old, you will see this has likely happened already.

The human race has evolved and devolved. Probably more than once.

The fact that the erosion on certain pyramids and the sphinx indicates it was submerged for 50-100k years is enough for me. Historians may say one thing, but geology doesn't lie.

I wasn't throwing Kurzweil around in the manner you were suggesting. Just telling everyone you've read his books doesn't make you an expert on on anything concerning the singularity any more than reading a book about astronauts making you an authority on astronauts.

The only reason I made the comment about cancer is because it was brought up by more than one person in this thread who has not had much exposure to the timeline laid out by Kurzweil. Perhaps if you had more knowledge about some of the other aspects described by Kurzweil you would have a leg to stand on to support that high horse you've mounted. Curing cancer will be such a minor issue and the process used to do so will not require the massive advancement that the singularity actually entails.

My phone locks up about once a week and has to be rebooted.

My computer at work dies almost daily and I have to reboot it. Sometimes I have to even unplug the mouse to make it turn on.

The Bluetooth on my truck sometimes un-syncs from my phone at random times.

Siri starts talking if I say someone's name like Sherry or Suzy or whatever and I have to tell Siri to stfu.

My satellite receiver gets stuck and has to be unplugged.

The cruise control in my truck sometimes shuts off and won't resume unless I turn the key off and back on while it's going down the road.

My fridge won't go buy groceries much less work all day to afford them.

My lawnmower' blades don't sharpen themselves.

None of these devices run on air and sunlight. They take shitty batteries or a power plug.

I could just keep going on and on but my point is that "they" need to have more reliable technology and an unlimited power source before Skynet is taking over. And even so, it will crash within a week.
