This guy has 140+ tech predictions since 1994 with an 86% success rate.
This is happening sooner than I thought.
Humans will merge their brains with machines in 12 years.

quote:
By 2029, computers will have human-level intelligence,” Kurzweil said in an interview at the SXSW Conference with Shira Lazar and Amy Kurzweil Comix
quote:
Known as the Singularity, the event is oft discussed by scientists, futurists, technology stalwarts and others as a time when artificial intelligence will cause machines to become smarter than human beings. The time frame is much sooner than what other stalwarts have said, including British theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking, as well as previous predictions from Kurzweil, who said it may occur as soon as 2045.
quote:
Though many luminaries, including Hawking, Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk and even Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates have warned about the age of machine learnings and artificial intelligence, Kurzweil isn’t worried.
quote:
“That’s not realistic,” Kurzweil said of one artificial intelligence potentially enslaving humanity. “We don’t have one or two AIs in the world. Today we have billions.” Musk, who has said that humans must merge with machines or risk becoming irrelevant, is working with OpenAI, a non-profit artificial intelligence research company, that is focused on making AI friendly to humanity.

Augmentations are gonna be the future of humanity!

The Singularity is inevitable. Not sure if it will happen by 2029, but it will happen.

12years....Ill proba wait this one out for a bit. Let those first adapters give it a go.

Kurzweil has always been notoriously optimistic with his timelines. But I hope he's right.

I'll wait a few months after release before installing to let all the bugs get worked out

I can't wait for the debate on AI rights and whether or not AI "slavery" should be abolished
Going to be some fun times ahead

X'ers will be the first generation to live forever.

Same here Luke,
I have a feeling we may have the choice to live forever in a machine or die once we get closer to 60 years old.
Going to be an interesting dilemma.

How can I tell my future machine overlords that I come in peace?

I'll take normal death, please.

I can't imagine the psych screening process needed to decide who gets in.
The damage one could do without a full deck post-assimilation?

11000110101001100 I believe though I'm a little rusty.
But seriously 12 years is a laughable timeline. Another poster pointed me to the complexity break, which is basically the idea that not all technological progress is exponential since the more information becomes known about a subject or field the harder it becomes to innovate further within that field, and I think we are approaching that break with computation. Hell I think Moore's law failed for the first time ever a couple years ago and has been progressively slowing down.
Once we can have a conversation with an Alexa type thing (actual conversation, pas Turing test), master quantum computing and start getting really good at mapping the brain, I'll start getting nervous.
I predict end of century at the earliest as it stands right now

Sheldon Cooper believes this will happen within 100 years.
