I've heard that. I really need to do that one year. Guess I should go chasing the indians one day too.

What about the Port Arthur Mardi Gras???

they are getting Randy Rogers Band to play though so I'll probably go for that.

I would rank any parade on the Eastern Shore over one in Mobile.

the only Mobile parade worth going to is the Joe Cain parade on that Sunday before Fat Tuesday.

Fat Tuesday itself is nothing like it was when I was growing up.

the crowds have been pretty sparse the last few years I thought.

While I won't rank them in order, I will say New Orleans is not even close to the best.

Agreed and probably isn't even in the top 5. If we throw in Venezuela and Brazil, New Orleans would be like going to a small town fair versus going to Walt Disney World. If you ever get the chance, go to one of those two and you'll see what real carnival is like. It's insane.

When i was younger, I had only experienced the Bourbon Street/Canal part of NOLA Mardi Gras and I wasnt a fan. When I started dating my wife who was from NOLA, I actually got to experience the Napolean/St. Charles/Orleans (Endymion) part of Mardi Gras. Much more my speed. I really enjoy Mardi Gras now.

Grew up going to Houma parades. They aren't bad and you WILL catch way more. Or get hurt not paying attention. But there's so much damned trash on those routes that I don't like going. I clearly remember a mom giving what looked like 12 year old kids cigarettes when I was about that age. But the flaots and everything are probably equivalent to Thoth in Nola.

I've been patiently waiting for someone to mention Church Point. And I thought you guys were Mardi Gras connoisseurs.... drag races down mainstreet with quarter horses... doesn't get any better than that.

OK if you want to go global, i'd say it's fair to say Nola isn't #1, but in the U.S. name even 2 that can compare. And even worldwide, name 5 that are better than Nola without naming some obscure places you only read about on the interwebs.

I would agree if people are looking at Rio's Carnival. I thought he was saying other Mardi Gras' within the US.

Houma has the second best Mardi Gras in the state for sure. It's clean, family fun. And if you want the party scene, downtown offers that too.
