Most but not all. Need at least a handful of other options, especially the ones located far off.

I'm more convinced we should get rid of you. Not everyone wants to go to LSU. Some schools offer things that LSU doesn't, like affordable education. LSU isn't the end all, be all of higher education in Louisiana.

hope it was his resignation speech.

but you and F King have been pissing and moaning for years that "draconian cuts" to LSU by Jindal would shut LSU down. Per the both of you, the universtiy simply cannot survive on what they are getting from the legislature. How could they have such a large class? How can they be alive and well? there's supposed to be a funding crisis at LSU!!

You mean they are doing ok? The students didn't leave en masse due to poor funding? No need for financial exigency? They didn't have to close the campus and shut down the athletic program? Respectfully, you and F King need to STFU. You have ZERO credibility on matters of higher ed.

That isn't ACTUALLY associated with the University, and has members from all over the world, and graduates from hundreds of different universities.

That has absolutely ZERO to do with the caliber of the institution and whether it should be the only one in the state.

Frickin idiot.

I'll echo this sentiment from Tiger (above).

Well, as compared to its peers, LSU is in a funding crisis. To deny that is retarded.

Numbers of graduates aren't really an indication of the de-prioritization of higher ed in Louisiana, which is a fact.

What makes your opinion on higher Ed more credible? You told someone to STFU and gave no creditials on the matter or a better alternative.

You realize that LSU is 12th or 13th best (and continues to fall) in the SEC, a group of schools that are known for mediocre academic prestige. Just because the school has students going there doesn't mean that it hasn't been harmed by the decisions made in the past.

Why people demonize those who want to improve LSU is so weird to me.

Edit: also this:

LSU isn't really all that expensive. $5400 all in for 15 hour isn't bad at all.

No one said it should be the only one. Any rational person should be able to admit that LA has way too many 4 year public universities.

I don't think the thought would be to close that many 4 year institutions. Just a few, for example, close McNeese and move the resources there to UL-Lafayette. New mascot- Cajun Cowboys.

It's already happening. You can count on it being gone entirely before long imo.

I thought they just voted to fully fund it recently.

Louisiana does not have a single public institution that is remotely "prestigious" (not expecting Harvard here, just maybe compete for a higher ranking in the SEC). There was an attempt to make LSU better in that regard while I was there, but the recession thrashed that idea.

When top professors haven't gotten a raise in 5+ years they take their research grants and prestige elsewhere.

Never talked to the guy but I saw him talk at some local thing once and your assessment is accurate as hell.

This either says something bad about your perception of the ability of black girls from Lake Providence or says something bad about LSUs standards.

Yeah let's just force the majority of LA's citizens that are seeking an education to move to Baton Rouge for school.

So the state should keep finding institutions like SUNO that graduate six kids for every 100 that enroll?

Louisiana has he most 4 year colleges per capita in the United States. Despite this, they're woefully behind simile states in higher education.

Not every small town in the state should have a four year university.

Sure, but to close all because one stooge thought LSU's diversity was great? No.

quote:

I don't think the thought would be to close that many 4 year institutions. Just a few, for example, close McNeese and move the resources there to UL-Lafayette. New mascot- Cajun Cowboys.

No. McNeese offers degree programs that ULL doesn't have the resources for, and moving them will not work. Not to mention there was some report recently that had McNeese's engineering program as the 3rd best in the country based on the cost of the degree and starting salary of graduates.

Which leads me to the "$5400 for 15 hours isn't all that bad" argument. The same course load at McNeese will cost a Louisiana resident $3700...almost $2k less than LSU.

If any universities should be canned, it's some of the half dozen in North Louisiana. Half the population of the state lives in the I-10 cooridor, yet we have LSU-A, LSU-S, Grambling, LA Tech, Northwestern, and ULM in the northern half of the state. I realize not all are 4 year schools, but good grief! You don't need that many schools in a region with less than half of the state's population.

The same could be said for the New Orleans/BR area, which has Southern, SUNO, LSU, UNO, Tulane, Nicholls, Xavier, and Loyola. And that's not counting the 2 year schools.

Yeah, we definitely need to cut back on schools, but I always laugh when the first geological-based argument is to get rid of McNeese.
