One thing I learned during this disaster is just how rainy the gulf coast is. I and anyone I have asked thought the Pacific NW was the rainiest area of our country. Here are the facts:

Major cities that receive the highest annual rainfall:

New Orleans - 62.7"
Miami - 61.9"

by comparison

Seattle - 38"
Portland - 36"

The difference is the number of rainy days:

Portland - 167 days
Seattle - 149 days

New Orleans - 106

those people are stupid

the Pacific NW gets misty rain and cloud cover, but rarely do they get heavy torrential downpours like we do

Yeah, and next you're going to tell me that Chicago really isn't the windiest city.

I'll gladly accept 62.7" of rain in 106 rainy days over 38" inches of rain in 167 rainy days.

Was stationed at JB Lewis-McChord for 3 years (Air Force, baby). After a while, you don't even notice the mist. Shite, people I knew didn't even own an umbrella. I wish I could go back to WA State, but for medicinal purposes.

It's really not that it rains MORE there, but every time I've gone up there it's almost always dreary. I'd rather the quick afternoon thunderstorm two or three times a week than a whole week of slight rain/no sunshine.

I'm not sure if it qualifies as a major city, but doesn't Mobile have the most rainy days in the US?

Last semester, we had a pretty bad thunderstorm and this guy from up north looked like he was about to shite his pants. Then he finally said "Y'all aren't afraid of this weather?"
And everyone including the professor laughed and said that this was pretty much an everyday thing.

That was the last time we ever saw him
Wonder what he thinks of the summer days that're in the 90's with intense humidity

Absolutely.

Although, it would be kinda cool to live in a literal rainforest in the Pacific NW for a little while.

ETA: Actually, I've been thinking about it...and I'd probably pick the Pacific NW over the Deep South.

I'd seriously consider trading some high arse humidity sunny days for a few misty ones.

I guess we can turn this into an "Is NOLA better than Portland" thread, but I was simply referring to fewer rainy days being preferable. How intense it rains on those days is largely irrelevant when the other city has 58% more days with rain.
