I could definitely do without the coast and if I lived my whole life from here on out without ever going to it again, I would be fine with that. It's humid, the air is salty, and it trends to be a magnet for trashy people. Give me the mountains and streams of Colorado.

I'm pretty happy here. Coast, mountains, milder weather (for a high latitude) few people, Libertarian attitude, islands, protected waterways, abundant wildlife, and unlimited outdoor activities. Ski area is minutes from downtown.

If I didn't live here, I'd live in Idaho if I had to pick somewhere in the lower 48.

The Pacific NW gets light rain often but nothing like the south as far as intensity.

Honestly, I would rather live somewhere between Squamish and Whistler in BC than here. Maybe one day. Life is hard

I can deal with rain but not sure about that whole dreary season in fall and going days at a time without seeing the sun

Days , it seemed like months! Naw, it was nice, but its not for everyone. I didn't miss WA State until I moved to San Antonio, in the middle of the summer.

It's expensive in Portland. More expensive in Seattle.

It rains here alot. We don't use umbrellas - hoodies work fine. If you stand in the rain for 2 hours, you'll get wet. You're an idiot, but you'd get wet.

Columbia Sportswear, which is headquartered in Portland, makes plenty of things to keep you dry.

I'll bet it's warmer in Portland than you think it is. No humidity, though. If you want snow, you're going to have to go to Mt. Hood. Or Mt. Bachelor. Or to some other Mountain that is 8-10 thousand feet high.

The topography is amazing. This past weekend I saw...

Cove Palisades

Painted Hills

Mt Bachelor

Floating the Deschutes River

Oregon Dunes

The Oregon Coast

Temps ranged from highs of 92 at Cove Palisades to 65 at Heceta Beach.

The least used retractable roof in MLB is Safeco

This may be due to the heat and humidity more than the rain, though. Seattle weather is so damn comfortable in the summer.

Arizona uses their roof to protect fans from the sun.

When I lived in Mobile it would rain while the Sun was shining and you could hardly see a cloud in the sky. It was so weird.

It's really not that it rains MORE there, but every time I've gone up there it's almost always dreary.

I hope it gets dreary again soon here (Seattle). It's barely rained all summer and it seems like we've been above 80 forever. I hate the summer anymore.

It's not just "cloud cover and mist" in The NW (not in Portland at least)

Unless it's July, August, or maybe Early September/Mid September, you can usually guarantee a few days of rain any given week. When it does rain, it'll rain all day or it'll rain then the sun will come out and you'll think "is it finally done?" Then it'll rain the rest of the day. It's very on again off again weather. It's beautiful and I love it.

Now the Coast will get storms. My dad and brother were Elk hunting in a monsoon two years ago where it poured the entire time and the wind knocked over trees and power lines. The NW beaches of Oregon it feels like it rains all the time. My childhood memories of the beach consists of rain or 60 degree weather and mist.

Nortshore, give it about another month. I know the feeling because when the rain/mist stops it is dry all summer. The grass dries very fast during the summer due to evergreens. Come October, you'll get the PNW

Do you work for CNN or MSNBC, only providing sound bites? What do you consider a "major city"?

Mobile, AL averages 67 inches of rain per year.
