I have the same Patagonia Torrentshell posted on page one. Have it in purple and it looks sharp with the aqua colored logo and zipper.

Very breathable. Unzips under the arm pits. Folds up small and has a hood. Also reasonably priced.

I'm not sure you know what casual means. Why does he need technical adventure gear to get in and out of his car on a rainy day?

For what you need, just go with a rain jacket in the 100-120 range. At that price point, Patagonia/Marmot/North Face are all the same and they get the job done.

I'd also recommend one of these. Stay dry and stay fresh.

Acteryx and Mammut are just head and shoulders better than Pata/TNF/Marmot/MHW/etc.

Probably, but I buy Helly Hansen which is a good value and serves me just fine. Hell, I live in a rainforest.

It may have something to do with its age.

Not saying this is what happened here, but you would be surprised how many people think their rain jacket or waterproof boots aren't working, when really they're just sweating and not realizing it. It happens a lot.

That can definitely be true but not the case in my situation.

I decided I didn't want to risk it again (I was on the side of a mountain) so I picked up an Arcteryx GoreTex Pro shell before my last trip. I then used it and was very impressed with its breathability. Of course proper layering and pit zips help.

Remembered I have a pic wearing the jacket. The sky fell out right after this on the way down and I got soaking wet.
