Blow up the Washington Street exit after the bridge where I-10 eastbound condenses to one lane. Nobody in hell is getting off at that ghetto exit. Use that lane to keep traffic moving instead of an exit only one lane. No other place in the country is 10 one lane except in Baton Rouge. It's like constantly having traffic get around a stalled vehicle because everybody gets out of the lane.

Worst engineering I've ever seen. Everywhere else outside Louisiana seems to have its act together

Should just plow that entire neighborhood to the ground and use it to make a new interchange

Are you suggesting that the Washington street exit is such a vital corridor that it warrants putting a bottleneck on one of the busiest interstates in the nation?

That exit needs to go away. But not because no one uses it. Because idiots coming from I-110 like to swerve two lanes to their right in an instant to use it. People traveling east on the bridge can just exit at Nicholson/Highland and be two blocks from Washington St. People traveling I-10 west can take the Louise exit, and people coming from I-110 can exit on government st. All three of those exits will get travelers within a couple of blocks of Washington St. without the cluster that it currently is. And the Dalrymple exits will get travelers a block or so from the other end of Washington.

Traffic engineers claim that continuing that lane for such a short distance would be innefective. What they claim is truly needed is extending that lane all the way to the 10/12 split. Unfortunately, 4 groups with political clout stand in the way of that:
The Louisiana Black Caucus
Black members of the Baton Rouge Metro Council
the bar owners in the Overpass area
Jon Bel Edwards

The Louisiana Black Caucus and the black members of the Metro council have vowed to veto any efforts to close the Washington Street exit or bulldoze any of the African American neighborhoods along the interstate.

Smokey Bourgeois, who is running for mayor and owns Georges under the Overpass, has fought such a widening because it would require his bar, Georges, to likely be demolished and moved.

Jon Bel Edwards used his power as governor to shift $250 million earmarked by Congress from improving I-10 in BR to widening I-10 between the end of the Basin Bridge in Henderson to I-49.

The fix is in. It's not happening. Not now, not in the future, not ever.

I-10 is not a city-parish road

Since the engineers are wrong, please explain how extending that lane for 400' would help the situation. The two lanes from the bridue would still go to one, just 400' further down. You need 4 lanes to the split. Or make I-110 one lane at that point so the bridge has 2.

I said they would be wrong if they claimed that it's not 1 lane. I never made any claim about how extending the lane 400' would help or not. They are two different things.

Right...because after that the eastbound traffic doesn't slow down again. This "non-conformity" may stifle traffic crossing the bridge, but it is not the reason for the backups beyond that. Traffic flowing across there at a faster pace is probably going to make the overall situation worse, not better. And the only remedy for that is more lanes on I-10 far as Gonzales and I-12 past Walker.
