Give me a list of cars with midsize interior space with leather, nav, etc for 30%-40% than a Prius. Should be very long.

you are 100% correct. Ignorant people do bc they think they are.

Out of curiosity, what do you do that pulls in that much right out of college?

I'm not fresh out of college, I just started a new job. I'm 27, I don't even have a degree. I started in the oilfield as a hand and eventually worked my way up to the level where I'm considered an engineer by the company and my peers.

So list all the cars I could buy that would provide the same utility for 30-40% less. Like I said, I'm sure it's a very long list.

Just FYI I did not have to put down any down payment when I bought my car in Dec of 2012. The only thing it changed was my monthly payment total

ETA: and the amount of total money paid in interest (not the rate)

Also just reread the thread. I didn't "throw a bow" and told exactly one person their list was a fail (and it was, is that my fault?).

If anyone is throwing bows, it was you insulting me for buying a Prius, living in Kenner, making poor financial decisions, etc.

Eta: Had to fix the spelling of bow because my phone doesn't recognize your trashy phrasing.

Wealthy people make alot of bad financial decisions all the time and have alot of money budgeted for luxurious purchases and spending. They also make alot of smart financial decisions, but rest assured, very few people becamee wealthy by making more bad decisions than good.

I'm thinking that a lease is a better decision financially to be honest.

Lease (39 mos.):

Down - $4,999
Monthly - $249
Tax (@ 5.75%) - $2,558
Total for 39 months - $17,268
Can purchase for $23,752

Buy ($40,000 vehicle with 39 month term):

Down - $10,000
Monthly (@ 2.83%) - $806
Tax - (@ 5.75%) - $6,956
Total - $48,390
How much would the vehicle have depreciated?

I didn't include interest on the monthly lease payments but it's kinda irrelevant.

this is obviously irking you. You may even be in a worse position than i thought if you honestly think i'm going to compile a list for you to prove my internet argument with some debt ridden kenner resident

Don't lease, it is a rip off

All you are paying for is the depreciation. And the costs are backloaded. You can avoid those backloaded costs with gap insurance but either way you will pay.

They try to sell you on a low monthly payment but then get you in the room to sign papers and start adding all these additional costs onto the monthly payment.

I admit I didn't review your numbers, but If this was the case the car manufacturer would be losing money on every vehicle they leased out. They're not a charity.

I'm not reading through 5 pages of what for the most part is misinformation, but leasing is almost never a better deal than buying.

Compare that same car as if you were purchasing, using the same out of pocket $$$$.

You also have $700 non-refundable acq. fee

The thing with buying is, it doens't have to be new. Unless you find a sweet deal with a low APR and nothing down, just buy certified pre-owned or used.

A 2010 AWD, Infinti G37, right now is worth around/over $20k.

With buying, you can avoid some depreciation if choose, but at the end, you have substantial value.

I realize this, it was one of the questions I asked in the OP. From what I've read it's also important to negotiate the purchase price as if you were buying.

Most of the extra costs are negotiable. If I can get them to throw in free oil changes for the lease term and come down on the fees a little I can come out ok. There are hidden fees, etc. when buying a new vehicle as well. That's why you need to be prepared and know what you're talking about so you have more leverage in negotiations.
