Question for successful business owners?

You have service with company A. Company B comes in with same service saves you a ton of money. You tell company A, you are changing, they come back and match company B. Does this not piss you off that they have to be pushed to offer you the savings?

No, I would chalk it up to me not doing my due diligence when quoting my original vendors.
What about you?

It wouldn't piss me off. I'd probably make the change though if Company B offered equal services. I would see if Company A would offer a lower fee then I might go back to them.
It's business. No personal feelings should be involved.

If you are not always fighting for lower prices on services you use then you won't be as successful as you should be.

It should only piss you off if you are a child or new to owning a business.
Your job, as a business owner, is to sell your services for the maximum amount someone is willing to pay.
A customers job is to purchase services for the least amount of money as possible while maintaining a quality standard.
So why should you be pissed off because another company is doing the very thing you are trying to do? If you were over paying you failed at doing your job as a customer.

Are the services 100% apples to apples? Many times there are many unseen variables. You have any references on company B? I know my products aren't the cheapest but my reputation adds value because I don't hide anything.

it depends, are we talking about picking up my garbage dumpsters or are we talking about something that actually means something?

Just remember that the lowest price is not always everything. Sometimes you actually do get what you pay for.

Wait...what? You won't be a successful business owner unless you try to maximize your profit.
Businesses aren't out to give you the best deal possible, they're out to make as much as they can...regardless of the bull the salesman spills you.

I agree not doing enough due diligence on my part.

I switched vendors this year. I saved money and service is so much better.
You have to do what is best for your business' bottom line.

This. If you are happy with the services of Business A and they match the offer of Business B, then I'd stick with Business A. Chances are there is a reason that Business B is cheaper.

A needs to come back lower than B. Not just match them at this point for me to stick with A.

Business is best by Relationship first and Price second. But you use competing bids to keep the price inflation in check.

As a service provider, I don't match prices. I charge my price for a level of service. What i will do for an established client that I want to keep their business, is I will discuss keeping the price the same, but perhaps adding in some additional services.
I have no issue with people who want to get the lowest price, though. Especially if the service is a commodity of sorts.

If you've been paying price X for years and every time you discuss a cheaper price, they tell you it's the best they can do, but now they come back at a 20% discount, I could understand the frustration.
If they just charged you and you never questioned it, it's on you.

Any cost associated with switching?

as a business owner and service provider my price is my price
if you are unhappy with my price I invite you to look elsewhere
The reason I can do this is I actually give thought to my prices and customize for each client. The price I've given is my best offer
