Question for OT Benzo users

Been trying to quit dipping since first of the year but have had horrible anxiety problems so went to doc to get something to help me out. I can't do chantix as it jacks me up so he put me on .5 mg Ativan Twice a day.
Whats the story on this stuff? Is it a quality med? After my 30 days am I going to become a huge jackass when I come off it?

you do have to taper off of benzodiazepines when you quit, but you are on a pretty low dosage, and for a short amount of time.... shouldn't be too much of an adjustment later on....

How old are you? A side effect of chantix is suicidal thoughts, particularly in young adults. Not saying it will happen to you, but be aware of it and stop taking it if they start.

I don't know about ativan, but I do personally know 3 people who killed themselves while quitting smoking on Chantix, so I wouldn't go that route

Ativan is good but I wouldn't suggest getting on that to quit dipping as benzos are WWAAAYY harder to quit. My advice to quit dipping would be to start using Snus. It will satisfy you but is way lower in nicotine and kinda sucks so once you stabilize you will want less and less. Then once you are used to Snus suck it up for a weekend and you will be fine.

I would not mess with the benzos unless ABSOLUTELY necessary. Especially not daily use. Physical dependance can develop very quickly and the withdrawals are a motherfricker. Much, much worse than quitting tobacco.

If you are worried, maybe ask your doctor about welbutrin (sp?) I think that's the one but i've heard of it helping people quit smoking.

Benzos don't kill you unless you mix them with other drugs. But ya, if you do they can kill you! It's pretty hard to die of an OD without benzos, any OD death you see has xanax listed.Posted on 2/27/15 at 11:12 pm to lsu480

Yes. For real. I have no idea why anyone would use chantix. Just ween yourself off the nicotine.
Dip only once a day for a while, then once every other day, then once a week for a while, then suck it up for a little while and you'll be done.

I've had girlfriends that smoke regurgitate that stat to me and I had to hold back from laughing in their face and try to be as supportive as possible without busting a gut
I've never taken a drag from a cigarette or took a dip so I guess I wouldn't know both first hand. But it's laughable.
