Sad day in Guttata household. Had to put our 16 yo Jack Russell to sleep. Wife and I had known her longer than we've known our 6th and 7th grade kids. Figured she had 16 good years, but once the renal disease and heart failure started to set in, she went down hill quick. She hadn't eaten in pretty much 2 days and was throwing up what looked like bile. She just stood there like she wasn't really sure where she was and I couldn't take watching her in that state. She will be missed dearly.

That hurts. Been there, done that. It's like losing a family member. You did the right thing.

I don't envy you man, I've got a 14 year old lab that's not doing well. Only a matter of time for me. You did the right thing.

That's very tough to do but no animal deserves to live that way. You did the right thing. How are your kids handling it?

We should treat people the same way, if we see them suffering and in pain it seems more reasonable to put them down.....

Yes I know I am in the minority on this

I know it's a very difficult time but just remember all the joy she brought you and the good life you helped her have. Those decisions always suck but you should know chronic kidney disease and late stage congestive heart failure come with grave prognoses.

You did the right thing and saved her from inevitable suffering and that shows how much you cared for her. So sorry for your loss

Kids are probably handling better than wife and I. I think one of the things that got to them the most was it is the first time in their lives that they've seen me teared up pretty good. Although we all knew what was coming and got to love on her a lot over the last couple of weeks, it still sucks.
