Public GT school v/s Private school in BR advice needed.

My daughter will be attending kindergarten. She went to St Jude Pre-k last year. We decided to get her tested through EBR gifted and talented program and she scored above the 94th percentile and qualifies for all day GT class attendance.
My dilemma is: Do I take her out of private school to place her in a public school GT program? The public school would be Wildwood Elementary.
I know that BR public school is shite but what about their GT program? TIA for any helpful advice.

GT program in EBR are great even in public schools....shifted my son from private to GT in 2nd grade six years ago....best decision ever. Schools like Parkview Elementary and Glasgow Middle are top notch....with BR High and Lee High being great Magnet option later on.
Hope that helps or holler if you need more info.

Academically, GT are a great option.
But there are other factors to consider such moral and social ramifications.

Other than Baton Rouge High which is a long way off, they will all be mixed schools for the most part. Gifted programs inner twined with regulars schools for diversity. Either go private, or move to zackary, central, or out of Parrish.

Pay for an elite private school or put them in gifted.

The GT program in BR is great. I am a teacher and would have no reservations about sending my kid through that program.
If she's not in GT, private is the only way to go in BR.

Is one G/T program better than the other? Wildwood had decent reviews compared to the others. Lasalle and another school (can't remember) had openings and was also an option.

GT program is a great way to go. save the private tuition for college/wedding fund..
if you see things you dont like pull her and opt into private again....

IMHO EBR Magnet schools are better than GT simply due to the overall environment and social issues and better chance of getting into BTR Magnet HS. We have been extremely happy with Sherwood Middle Magnet and daughter is on track for BTR High...started in the Ascension Public system then moved to the Trinity Episcopal system until we finally got her into the Magnet pipeline.

I am kind of in the same situation. My son has been going to private school in BR since Pre-K. Due to changes at the school we decided to look elsewhere. He was accepted into BR High and will go there for the 9th grade. Other options were Dunham, Episcopal, Catholic. From what I can see he will get as good if not a better high school education at BR High as compared to the others.

I've heard wonderful things about the FLAIM programs.

Don't know the situation in EBR. I know in several places, the specialized programs like GT were put into lower performing schools in order to artificially boost the overall performance of the school. Which meant that there were often some delicate situations as students progress to middle school. Generally, though, the elementary schools were not as bad.

I am curious about that new charter school they're building at woman's hospital. Supposed to pump.out geniuses left and right. Not sure how it's going to work here. Would be nice to send kids to a great free school.

Which is better academically? I understand what you are saying about the environmental and social issues and that's why I have some reservations sending her there.

I'd still be afraid of potential interaction with trash.

Dont know anything about the GT program you speak of but I have a thought to consider. I have had my kids at private schools throughout. Public schools are GOVT schools. The govt cant do anything well why would you entrust your children to them. FWIW I am a product of public schools and there is a big difference between private school and Govt school even if the Govt school is considered "Good".
