1) Because I could see them.

2) Because I eventually went both ways.

I've neve seen lights flashing red in all directions. They're either flashing red one way and yellow the other or completely out, which you treat like a 4 way stop.

PSA to Baton Rouge drivers: a green light doesn't mean you can zoom up 5 feet and block the intersection for 2 cycles for the people going the other direction. My number 1 fricking pet peeve.

I hate these people so much.

Got stuck on Bluebonnet/Perkins because of this today. If you can't make it all the way through the intersection don't go. Ugh.

And, you need to cut on your damn lights (law in La.) anytime your wipers are on.

It's the other way around in Alabama. Typo in the traffic code. It's annoying as hell on nights when it does not rain.

Yes, I really wish these a**holes would get ticketed.

It happens virtually every cycle at the busier intersections.

While flashing yellow/red has been used in years past, the industry is getting away from it for all way flashing red...... The yellow is dangerous.

And you can turn left on RED..... if the street is a one way street you are turning on.
This is only fully true in a few states. In most states (LA being one) to turn left on red you have to be coming from a one-way and turning onto a one-way.

You can also turn left on red as long as it's a one way street.

turning left from the left lane of a one way street onto a one way street is ok. both streets must be one way.

to be precise, a non-functioning light is "treated" as a 4 way stop. a functioning light which is flashing red on all sides is a 4 way stop.

often, i see a light that is set to flash red on one side and yellow on the other, and people stop on the yellow side. apparently, they think the light is not functioning because it is not cycling green, yellow, red.

Also, don't forget to use that turny-stick thing on the steering column. It lets others now what you intend to do and helps traffic flow efficiently.
