Sadly it appears the 2 boys are lost forever at sea. The family has halted the search.

There is this though:

quote:

A GoFundMe page for the missing teens, started by Pamela Cohen, Perry’s mother, generated nearly half a million dollars for the search effort, which will go a charity in the boys’ honor, the family said.

Should that money be given to the Coast Guard to help defray some of the search costs?

No, it shouldn't go to any government entity. They are going to piss money away regardless and get whatever money they need regardless.

No they are doing what we have already paid for. How many days do they sit idle or do training exercises.

I think it would be kind of cool if they started a memorial Big Game fishing tournament in their area in the boys name.

No. The foundation would be better served supporting boater education courses for teens in FL

Isn't that what they are paid to do in the first place? That would be like paying the firefighters or police when you need them.

That's what their budget is for. If they weren't on an actual search, they'd be patrolling or doing training exercises, so the gas gets burned regardless.

They could combine the two ideas in this thread, and create a boater education weekend with a big game fishing tournament of some kind.

It would raise a bunch of awareness, potentially save lives, and have fun while remembering a couple of vivacious young boys.

Win all around.

They should give it to Floyd Mayweather. He knows what to do with money.

How about buying a ton of epirbs and giving them to all teens who complete a good boat safety course.

No, for the reasons already mentioned.

I agree that it should go to funding some sort of awareness initiative for youth boating or whatever. It might save some lives one day and be a fitting legacy.

I wouldn't advocate giving it to the CG but it didn't strike me as some crazy idea.

They do that shite so that when shite happens like what happened to the boys, they can get out there and actually help instead of just raising money on gofundme that goes who knows where.

Unfortunately in this case, it's a big arse ocean. But they save plenty of lives. On the list of wasteful government agencies, they are pretty near the bottom.

Boobs for mom, a new boat for dad, and an F250 to haul it all.

Probably it will go to the defense fund of the family who owned the boat for the family of the other boy who went with him will probably file some type of wrongful death suit against them.

I bet its the biological father that files the lawsuit. The guy that owned the boat was a stepdad.
