And asked them to declare war on Germany. The vote, which took place four days later, brought the United States into World War I.

A forgotten time when Presidents didn't unilaterally declare war.

Six months after he won election on the slogan "He kept us out of war".

Wilson may have the been the worst President ever.

A lot of posters wanted to fist fight him.

I've often wondered what would have happened had the US actually been neutral from the start of WWI. Yeah, we claimed we were "neutral" from 1914-early 1917. But everyone knows that we were anything but neutral.

wilson was more liberal than obama would ever be yet people love him.

We actually started out very neutral. We attempted to continue trading with Germany after the outbreak of war but the Royal Navy's blockade of German ports kept us from doing that. As Britain was our largest trading partner before the war, it made sense to continue that commerce during the conflict. By the end of 1915, however, the American public began to grow very bitter toward Germany and their practice of Unrestricted Submarine Warfare - especially after the sinking of the Lusitania.

The better question is if we didn't bitch out on finishing Germany during WWI.
Would have saved a lot of lives in the 40s and changed the face of "modern" war

Ah yes, the Paris treaty was much more generous....said no one ever.
We fricking occupied Germany after WW2, something we should have done after WW1
Who represented Germany in Paris?

The world may well have been better if Germany had pushed through to France and captured Paris in the very beginning of the war.
Generations of men are spared, the Nazis don't come to power, and perhaps the Bolsheviks don't take over Russia.

No one. The Germans weren't even allowed to come to Paris until the treaty was ready to sign.

Exactly! Do that after WW1 and Hitler is a pissed off hipster writing street poetry instead of leading the masses

To keep WW2 from happening.
All I can think is that we learned from our mistake
