Something about seeing convoys of Power Trucks and Crews from all over heading down to help really feels patriotic. America at its best. Rolling sleeves up and helping out when we face disaster.
Lots of trucks today on 20/59 Southbound. God bless and be safe.

Great recruiting tool. I didn’t see many long faces!

How does this typically work? Volunteer? Seniority? I’m sure they are getting overtime and per diem also.

Nothing but baws in those trucks. No Biden voters, that's for sure.

I've always felt the same way. Just some blue collar guys working a job that they may or may not hate giving people their power back. My brother is a lineman and I'm damn proud of him.

Even the Canadian baws helped out after Katrina:

Vancouver Urban Search and Rescue
One of the first things Canada did was to deploy Vancouver Urban Search and Rescue to Louisiana. They arrived on a WestJet Airlines aircraft in Lafayette, Louisiana on the evening of August 31, 2005. Due to security and logistics issues in the disaster area surrounding New Orleans, the team started operations on September 3; they saved 30 people that day. They were the first outside responders to arrive in St. Bernard Parish, beating American response teams[2]. By the time they returned to Vancouver on September 6, they had reportedly saved over 110 people.

We usually do volunteer then whoever's turn it is after that. We rotate storms unless you want to go. Linemen usually fill up with volunteers for the OT pay. No per diem, whatever utility request us pays for/provides meals and lodging. Usually they are not good haha

If I was one of those baws, I’d ignore houses with Biden signs and help Trump houses first.

I saw a convoy of at least 15-20 on I-20W today near Lincoln. That was just bucket trucks. There were several regular pickups sprinkled into the convoy as well.

It was impressive.

In all due respect, I have family that is a lineman and the overtime is a plus, but you can be assured that if these guys had the final say so, faced with what they are heading into, pretty much every one of them would choose to be home with their wives and kids.
We hear a lot about police and firemen and doctors and nurses and we should appreciate and respect them all but you never hear about the linemen and distribution workers who have to leave their families, not knowing when they’ll be home and actually not knowing if they’ll come home because these are dangerous jobs and dangerous work environments. They are working areas they aren’t familiar with, working with people they’ve never met, in the heat, rain, wind or cold, at least 12 hours a day, risking someone back feeding the lines they’re working on, in bucket trucks, up poles, on the ground, whatever is needed...until all power customers have their lights back on. I’m retired from that field, I’m proud of them and I’m thankful for them, my prayers are for their safe return to their families.
