Post Medicare Age Drugs

Pre-Medicare my wife’s Ozempic medicine for her diabetes was free with our company insurance. Now that we are Medicare age, the cost is outrageous. In January I had to pay our annual $500 deductible. Then it was $13/mo after that. That is until May, when we hit the ‘donut hole’. Now it’s $1300/mo. I’m pretty well off and I can’t afford it. This is insanity that once your Medicare age, some drugs that you need for a healthy lifestyle are no longer affordable. Am I missing something?

Medicare is not down with Ozempic

Now that doctors are giving ozempic to all the fast food queens for weight loss, insurances will stop covering it.

No, you are not. They want us ALL to live longer and pay for it before and after you get there. Very hard to plan for your future.

Same with my Trelegy and my wife's Humira once we went on Medicare, even with our Atena advantage plans to help cover part D instead of commercial insurance...
We went thru patient assistance with Abbvie for her Humira and GSK for my Trelegy...
Humongous PITA to get approved but worth it.

Once you have reached maximum out of pocket (use to be $3600) she’ll be in the catastrophic phase and copays will be really cheap or possibly zero.

Ozempic has a coupon program if she is diabetic.
If it is for weight loss you got to pay.

Honestly, this is the very reason I am putting off retirement.

Coupons typically don’t work for government backed insurance like medicaid and medicare. Unless its free trial coupon like they have for Xarelto/Eliquis

Whatever government moron came
Up with this , deserves worse than torture
It penalizes people. Often they can’t pay for their meds and have to do without, thus causing more hospitalizations and worse outcomes

Does Medicare pay for lip filler?

metformin may lower a1c by ~1-2 points.
1-2 points off the a1c aint gonna cut it for tons of diabetics.

quote:"Once you've spent $7,400 out-of-pocket in 2023, you're out of the coverage gap. Once you get out of the coverage gap (Medicare prescription drug coverage), you automatically get "catastrophic coverage." It assures you only pay a small coinsurance percentage or copayment for covered drugs for the rest of the year."
Now it’s $1300/mo. I’m pretty well off and I can’t afford it.
medicare.gov
Either you're just whining about having to cover a bit of your own bills or you're not actually "pretty well off." Sounds like you were under prepared for retirement if you didnt account for healthcare expenses ahead of time. While in the donut hole Medicare and manufacturer still pick up 75% of the costs. Medicare prescription coverage was actually expanded under GW Bush and retirees now have better coverage than any previous generation.

What do you mean by hitting the donut hole? Why did it change in May?

Idk but several years ago they paid for a penile implant repair for one of the residents of the nursing home where I consult.

Yeah and make sure to keep a good supply of diapers on hand so when you sneeze and shite your pants you don’t ruin your jeans.
