Honestly, for several decades it = douche in my mind....until I drove one... having that experience pretty much settled it for me.
It's more than just a classic because of Porsche's commitment to excellence in engineering. . It's still the standard bearer of what a great sports car is and for that matter, the company is without peer as the kings of hi-performance car builders.

Classic. But it’s a classic that tends to attract douches.

Classic that attracts some douches. Any high end car attracts douches. Porches are amazing cars

The only reason that I'm not all in for the 911 as the perfect super car is the silhouette. mainly of the cabriolet. Somehow the rear quarter looks bulbous and awkward to me when the top is cut. As a coupe it's pretty close to perfect... much better in the past few years than ever IMO. Even though the air cooled slantnose is such a legend, I never liked the look....at all.
I ended up buying the new body Boxster S out of preference for lines as a convertible. Sold it recently due to family access was limited and was tired of keeping a Sequoia as a second car just for that purpose. The Boxster gets flack from some enthusiasts but I think Porsche is very wise to keep the power specs lower than the 911. If equally powered, the Boxster would be a hard car to beat as a world class super car at any price point.

If you are into cars for the way it is engineered and performance rather than status then you will love a 911. The truly are the ultimate in driving machines.
