quote:

A suicidal man who had doused himself in gasoline became engulfed in flames at an Arlington home Monday after an officer used a stun gun on him, police said.

The officer who used the Taser on the man believed that the man was holding a lighter in his hand and was about to use it, police spokeswoman Sgt. VaNessa Harrison said at a news conference.

Harrison acknowledged the risk of using an electrical stun gun near gasoline, but said the man was “very frantic and erratic and became a danger to everyone in the room.”

oops

Not sure what else they could have done, but still pretty funny

Suicide by Cop.

The qualifications for being a police officer should really be raised.

They already can't get people to do that job. You want to have even fewer police officers?

Raise the pay and benefits along with the qualifications.

Found a way to pin him down. Maybe use one of those net guns.

Not lit him on fire! In order to stop a man from lighting himself on fire, the cop lit the man on fire.

The guy soaked with gasoline and with a lighter in his hand Outstanding plan. Nothing can go wrong with that.

Not 100 percent accurate. Some departments have no problem recruiting. The problem is the pay scale is so different that the same people are applying to the same departments. State police had over 600 applications for the last class they did. NOPD gets people from all over the country. The problem is the small parish and cities that don't pay anything have to hire the rejects.

So what yer sayin is raise taxes on the people who work and are too tired to commit crimes to pay for more criminals to sue for excessive policing in order to raise more taxes for the lawsuits?

So you think the plan they used was better? Which caused the man to be lit on fire?

I am amazed at the dumb in this thread.

If you douse yourself with gasoline then you should expect something bad to happen.

And if the police were just going to kill him they might as well have just let him kill himself. Like seriously, what were the police trying to accomplish here? Whatever it was they failed miserably.

That has to be the single worst way to kill yourself. The amount of time and pain you'd go through before you died would feel like an eternity.

Man I am all about holding people accountable, but think you are being a little dramatic. They had options.

1. Fight him, take a chance gas gets on them and he lights them.
2. Shoot the suspect
3. Keep asking him if he minds getting on the ground.
4. Take a chance he hurts someone else and let it linger on
5. Taz him and worry about the rest after.

Hold everyone accountable. President, your boss, exc but at least come up with a sound counter move they should have made. This country is all about telling people the did bad or wrong, but offer no reasonable solutions.
