Cops are continual targets and a few one zealous officers aren't helping their cases.

actually the good cops cases are being hurt by the defense of all actions. Some come with a frick the public we must protect the shield attitude. Others try to justify mistakes with excuses and wont even budge on saying that mistakes like this should be job costing mistakes even if they aren't malicious in intent. Then other good cops remain silent. A small percent of cops are bad cops, a majority defend all cop actions no matter what, a small percent speak out against the action of others.

So the consequence is death? The odds of a drunk homeless man having a gun are slim to none. This man was no threat. If he was somebody would have been harm far before the police arrived.

Comment from g shocked

The homeless man looked white. Was he? If so thank the lord. I'm tired of seeing my people getting killed by these frickers every week. A white home less bum in America go figure. I guess all that white privilege still couldn't afford him a good life and all the advances a white man is born with. Go frickin figure. I love it. Move videos like this please. Damn if this bum wasn't white I typed all this for nothing. FML

Before we rush to judgement, there may be more to the story. Or at least I hope so.

Maybe the person who called it in says he has a gun. Maybe the guy acted like he had a gun.

nope...didn't say anything about whether the dude's death was justified...just making the point that in most of these cases, the victim failed to follow police orders...

Ledoux is also under investigation for roughing up another suspect prior to this incident. Im not 100% but i believe he was already in cuffs.
Jody is also a former Baton Rouge cop.

Prosecutors have released surveillance video showing Monroe, La. police officer Jody LeDoux shooting and killing a homeless man within seconds of the officer’s arrival on scene. Raymond Keith Martinez was reportedly drunk when he was ejected from a local store and law enforcement was called to remove him, and may have reached for what shopkeepers say may have been a black cellphone when shot. LeDoux has pleaded not guilty to the charges, although looking at the footage, it is difficult to defend his actions. While all the facts of the case are not known, LeDoux has found support from several of his colleagues from the West Monroe Police Department. LeDoux is next scheduled to appear in court on May 19, 2015.
see the part in bold.

what's the point of making this point?

Why not taze the guy? Why not use one of the take down move he was trained for?

How about not unloading a clip into the guy?

You know, we really don't know the entire story here. But the truth of the matter is, he was kicked out of a bar for being rowdy and drunk.

The cop became trial, jury, and executioner all in a matter of seconds. There's a problem with that system.

I get it, cops have to protect themselves. But we shouldn't have a society where the first action a cop takes is fire off 3 rounds.

Chickadee, i agree, you have to follow police orders 100%, but, not following shouldn't be a death sentence.

Here's part of the problem too, but unrelated to this specific case because I know nothing about it. You don't have to follow a police order unless it is a lawful order. In other words, if you're on your porch and a cop tells you to go inside, you don't have to. If you're videotaping a cop and he tells you to stop for no reason, you don't have to. The problems then arise when you choose to not obey an unlawful order and get a beat down and an arrest for some bullshite charge like failure to comply/obey when it was an unlawful order in the first place.

The store owner reported the suspect as drunk and disturbing customers. He was widely known through this area of WM as a harmless drunk. The News Star did a write up about it not long ago.

My biggest issue is not that he only shot the guy, he unloaded his magazine on him. Hit the victim 5 times, there are multiple bullet holes in the wall of the store still.
