Ok, so I suck at plumbing, but try to help me out please.

The bathtub faucet was dripping, and started getting worse. I shut off the main, took out a stem, went to Home Depot and bought replacements.

I changed both the hot and cold water stems.

The leaking is slowed, but still water leaks from the faucet. Maybe I'm not understanding the flow of water here, I thought for sure changing those stems would stop the faucet drip.

Put all new washers in with the new stems?

The valve "body" may be worn out and need replacing also, how old are the water lines?

I had an old plumber tell me once that constantly tightening to knobs, to stop a drip, may crack the seat that the washer rests in. You may need to change the faucet. I assume the stems came with new rubber washers or those cartridges with new o-rings?

You think that's bad? My fricking wife just dropped a barrette in the toilet right as she flushed it.

NOW, I have to remove the toilet and fish that fricker out. And replace the wax ring.

fun times.

My money is on a cracked or worn seat. You can replace them but you need a seat wrench to do it. A one time expense for a tool you will use once in your life.

I don't know what washers y'all are talking about. There are o-rings on the stems where they screw into the valve body. It's not leaking there, though, it's coming out of the faucet.

And handymen are thankful for people like you that can't do such a simple task.

That would run $300 easily vs an hour of your time and a $5 wax ring. Your time isn't worth $295 per hour.

Fishing a shite covered hat out of a sewer line is worth $300 to me. Plus, I probably wouldn't set it back correctly. I've spent $300 on dumber things.

Really hard to mess up with the wax ring.

He would have to be a surgeon or some shite for his time to be worth that.

Why would you have to change the wax ring because of a barrette? That's a little overkill, don't you think?

If you take the toilet up to fish it out of the line then you will need a new ring.

Not sure why he can't just try to snake it out with the toilet in place.

It's a barrette. The flow pressure is probably strong enough to move it out of the line.

Maybe but it's also not good to have in your sewer system if it's a mechanical unit. It's not like paper that will break down.

Hahaha.
ETA: I'm not a surgeon. I'm just a guy hoping BAMA loses.

Haha. A surgeon would be a downgrade.
