My brother will be moving to Plaquemine for work. He is a recent graduate with no kids in tow. Where should he target? Avoid? I don't believe he is looking to buy right now either

It's not a bad town, just a poor town. I would say the best places to live are in The Island, the Tenant rd area, or thesubdivision by the new medical center the built. I have over here all my life and have never been in any part of town that I did not feel safe. It has its fair share of trashy though. It doesn't bother me that much.

Work is not a good enough reason to move to Plaquemine.

This. Just live in BR and drive across the river. He's going to be bored AF in Plaquemine. Plus, an awful lot of trash there.

The island is a nice subdivision and around the local catholic school also in the Garden District more specifically middle Labauve Ave. Addis and Brusly are towns just outside of Plaquemine, that another option. Antonio Estates and The Oaks are good subdivisions there.

There are some nice places to live in Plaquemine but not much to rent. There are some nice and fairly new appartments in Addis right next to the YMCA on Hwy 1.

This. And do not move to BR you will loose your mind with the traffic and accidents on the bridge. My inlaws live in the sub next to new hospital and it's a nice are as well as the ones smells like Kevin Bacon mentioned. Would be a good idea to check Brusly out first that would put you 10-15 mins closer to BR. Oh don't speed through those little towns.....EVER!

I would never live in BR and work in Plaq and have to deal with that traffic on the bridge everyday. It makes a 20 mile trip last over an hour.

And while there re trashy people around here, for the most part they are good people.

There isn't a single town in Louisiana that isn't trashy to some extent. Zip. Zero. None. The difference is the people in the town. Even the trashy people in Plaquemine are ok. And there are more quality people than trashy, so it's not bad.

The sad part is that it's not crossing the river that's the problem, it's crossing the intracoastal canal on LA 1. LA 1 is literally the only road over it and it backs up for miles every day while people try to merge onto the bridge. If one could somehow get around that, they would be able to take the new bridge with only a short detour. Plaquemine does have the ferry, but it's unreliable and often takes longer than just taking the bridge. I wouldn't advocate trying to make the commute, just live there. It's nice enough for a small town and honestly has a lot of charm.

Tell him do like everybody else at Dow, live in BR or Gonzales and drive to work. Other than the Island avoid Plaquemine

Screw off KR...

...that's only partly true.

The Island is great.
St Louis Subdivision is good.
There are areas in Addiss that are good.

The problem is that he'll have to buy...not much to rent around here in quality areas.

Plaquemine isn't any worse than any other small town. Fairly low crime, limited food choices, and usually more space and quiet than BR.
Is strongly suggest living on the west side of the river if he works over here.
I lived in BR and worked south of Plaq for a year and hated it...the bridge will make you hate your life (and that's at anytime of the day).
I now live and works right south of Plaq and I'm pretty happy with the choice.
There are drawbacks but I enjoy the space and quiet compared to BR.
