I'm planning a trip to Cuba and have researched State Dept. clearance and flights but am coming up on short on places to stay etc.

Any suggestions?

Flights from Mexico City to Havana are about $550 round trip

Yes. Went in 2005. Beautiful country. Havana is great. There's a really well maintained historic fort in the city that it a must visit. There was some firework display the night we went. We were there on a church trip so we didn't do a lot of bar hopping but had some damn good mojitos at the beach.

The food in Cuba is not as good as the food in Mexico. Beaches are way nicer though.

Cuba is a huge tourist destination for Canadians because there is almost no Americans vacationing there.

whatever you do and wherever you stay, you will be selling yourself short if you don't go fishing for bonefish on the flats.

I backpacked Europe for over 2 months in 2009. Your people were quite rude whenever I would come upon them in a hostile etc. I'm from the South not a dick like NE areas. I did meet a few cool hockey players though.

I'd be a bit nervous about going there, simply because there's no US embassy and if anything goes wrong you're on your own.

also, I've heard that cuban food there is not as good as cuban food in the US because they don't have access to the same spices.
