My wife liked the name Dante. I was OK with it but not in love with it. I told her about a speed shop I liked to buy parts from as a kid, plus I had my grandfathers brother that I had never met with the same name, which would make it a family name. It's been Jake for thirteen years now. Stuck with the J theme and have a daughter named Julia who is twelve now. Two great kids and what my wife and I live for. Good luck.

I don't have kids but if I did I would just tell her she can pick whatever she wants.

What happens when she picks the name of a girl you used to hook up with? What happens when she picks the name of a guy that you cant stand and you've always associated that name with a douche?

Our other issue is that I think we both agree on a boy name, but its the name of one of her cousins. It feels a little weird naming it the name. Especially since we do not want anyone to mistake that we are naming it after him.

How often do you see that cousin? If not often, I wouldn't worry about it too much because there won't be much confusion except at extended family gatherings. If anyone says,"oh, you named him after cousin Buford" just tell them, no, we just both liked that name.

I plan to hold firm on what i want my hypothetical daughter to be name to be unless given extreme circumstances. I cant imagine any women putting up a fight about it when they hear the reasoning behind it

As for a son, im much more flexible but i like the idea of a Jr.

We see him at Christmas and things like that. General family consensus is that he sucks though. So its not like we have to explain that we didn't name him after him, he has to share a name with a kinda shitty person.

"Oh, frick you! frick you, pal! Jesus, there you go again trying to pass the buck. I'm the source of all your misery. Who closed the store to play hockey? Who closed the store to go to a wake? Who tried to win back his ex girlfriend without even discussing how he felt with his present one? You wanna blame somebody? Blame yourself. "I'm not even supposed to be here today."

You sound like an a-hole! Jesus, nobody twisted your arm to be here today. You're here of your own volition. You like to think the weight of the world rests on your shoulders. Like this place would fall apart if Dante wasn't here. Jesus, you overcompensate for having what's basically a monkey's job. You push fricking buttons. Anybody can waltz in here and do our jobs. You... You're so obsessed with making it seem so much more epic, so much more important than it really is. Christ, you work in a convenience store, Dante! And badly, I might add! I work in a shitty video store, badly as well.

You know, that guy Jay's got it right, man. He has no delusions about what he does. Us... we like to make ourselves seem so much more important than the people that come in here to buy a paper, or, God forbid... cigarettes. We look down on them as if we're so advanced. Well, if we're so fricking advanced, what are we doing working?

I'm of the opinion that if it didn't exist in this country or your country of heritage 150 years ago, you shouldn't consider it.

Anything that ends in "aiden" is a gay name.

My son's name is Nathaniel, but my original choice was to name him Garrison. I think little boys should have strong names that will present them as strong men. At the time I was friends with a girl who's son was named garen, and so I changed my choice, and now I don't even talk to her. I wish I had stayed with what I wanted.

What I'm trying to stress to my wife is that one day your little boy will be a man. He might be someone's boss or something. It's not bad to give him an adult name.

The social security administration will let you view the top 1000 names for any given year. I printed off two sets of the list and Mrs. Tigerdeacon and I went through marking out the names we did not like. Then we compared our list of names we liked and we had about 7 matching names. We chose from there.
