Usually the photographer has to put aside their own feelings to capture this kind of thing, which will invariably turn people against the photographer.
I can understand that point of view with National Geographic and war zone areas where you cannot possibly make a difference, but every single hit and punch thrown ruins that child. That poor kid is going to grow up and continue the cycle.

Sad thing is he will be out of jail soon and will kill her and the kids. These dogs need to be locked away for life.

I would glaze over shite like this before I had kids, but now it hits me like a brick.
My wife and I are very good at not arguing in front of our boys. We rarely fight anyway. But it's weird how kids pick up things, because if we even have heated conversations in slightly raised voices, he's all like "mom, dad. Stop fighting" I don't know where he gets the idea that we are fighting from. I can't imagine what it's like for a child to witness both physical and mental abuse like that.

Yep. Shows like Jerry Springer and Cops used to be funny to me and the small kids affected didn't impact me.
As a parent, you can't help but notice the kids in these situations and imagine your own. Beautiful innocent little girl there. Has little shot at a life other than minimum wage jobs in low rent housing and exposure to guys like Shane.

That is a really powerful illustration of domestic violence. It's a horrible problem that we throw our criminal justice professionals into dealing with. Everybody is at fault except the children. There are no easy solutions to the problem.

If you read the article there is a valid explanation. The photographer (FEMALE) approached them at some carnival and wanted to take pics of the family. Later on she got to know more about their background and was taking photos in their home when all this went down. She said that she got someone else to go call 911 while she documented the abuse. She was scared to intervene because the guy already proved that he would hit a woman.
The photographer didn't want to get her arse beat too by jumping in so she took photos to document the abuse.

This thread was good before you came in here and gayed it up with feelings and shite, Mikee.

She has obviously has made some poor choices in life.

I think the photographer did a real service by documenting the horrors of DV. She did her job by not intruding into the situation.

Some people in here are acting like she just enabled the shite to go down. She gave her phone to someone in the house, and had them call 911 which led to the guy going to prison. Besides getting her arse beat down for getting in the middle, what did you guys expect her to do?

This is the true problem with our society. We have too many women having children out of wedlock(some in wedlock) with guys that are unfit to be fathers.

I can't speak for anyone else but I'm acting like the whole thing is bullshite. I don't think a photographer would ever get those photos without getting the shite beaten out of her and getting her camera broken.
Maybe it's overly skeptical but there have been fake documentaries in the past that fooled a lot of people (Catfish and all of Shark Week).
Not to mention a lot of those look staged as hell. Like she just said "act like you're screaming". I'm sticking with the bullshite hypothesis.
