No, Castille's weapon. Why did he have a gun? It got him killed.

Subtle about what? I'm pro-police and I'm pro 2A.

How is anything I said false?

is the 2nd thing to do is pray to god this cop doesn't flip his shite and take any movement as a threat?

No, the second thing to do is to keep your hands up and await the cop's orders to disarm you. Sorry my response isn't as sexy and hyperbolic as you would've liked.

I'd prefer, unless absolutely impossible, for a cop to deescalate that situation by drawing and backing away rather than refusing to yield any ground and firing multiple shots into a vehicle with a woman and child in it.

No that is bad tactics and puts the officer in a huge disadvantage in case the guy decides to attack and starts shooting.

You maintain the advantage in position and give orders.

No it didn't. His unwise actions got him killed.

I don't know what the guy was reaching for, but Why inform the officer you have a firearm if you're intended to pull it out and start blasting? To me it just seems like fear overcame the cop and he panicked.

Both of my parents are CHL holders who happen to be black. Been in the car with both of them numerous times during a traffic stop and seen exactly the right way to handle oneself.

Don't give me the bullshite that PC having a weapon got him killed. Deliberate duplicity on your part. Shame on you.

How hard is it to keep two hands on the steering wheel if you have a firearm. let the officer know where it is. if it is in the door let him open the door and disarm you.

motherfricking this

keep your damn hands on the wheel, make no sudden moves and follow all directions

how is the cop supposed to know in the heat of the moment that he didn't have "bad intentions"?

Fair enough, but perhaps an order other than "don't touch the gun"?

I can follow that order while reaching for my wallet and still get 6 rounds in the chest. Tell me what to do, that way it is clear if/when I'm not following directions.

Why inform the officer you have a gun then proceed to fumble around for something in the vehicle?

Seems to me that the cop was informed of a danger then saw someone moving in a way that could actualize the danger

Maybe that's the problem.

I'm not going to argue that killing any perceived threat isn't safer for the cop, I'm sure it is.

I'm saying it's fricked up that a bullshite stop leads to this. I support police, and for the sake of discussion I would concede that it's dangerous to make "flight" a responsibility of the police. But there has to be a better solution.

To compare it to an everyday situation that also gets the OT hot and bothered, I think it's also absurd that cops perceive threats from family pets and gun them down to avoid getting scratched up by a golden retriever.

It's a systemic manner of police protection that deemphasizes the validity of underlying police action (as in, don't pull someone over for nothing, don't sloppily conduct no knock warrants, etc.).

For him it would have been hard. He was in the passenger seat. His babymama was driving.

Pulling people over for a brake light, a tag light, a headlight out, etc is all just a bullshite reason to go fishing for DUI's, drugs etc. All that foolishness needs to stop.

He got the gun because he had a young child and lived in an area with rampant drug and other illegal activity.

No, failing to follow his training in obtaining his permit got him killed. Inform, keep hands visible, and offer to let the officer disarm you. This is covered ad nauseam in any CCP class I have ever attended.

I assume you form this opinion because of gun violence. What if I told you 90-95% of gun violence is committed by people who don't go through the proper protocols to obtain the weapon so no gun legislation will prevent them?

About the only thing you can do is not let that guy be a cop. He had no bearing and no sense of discretion in that shooting. He had the draw on the guy and could have given orders well before firing. A big part of being in law enforcement is understanding that your life may at time be put in jeopardy. He is a coward and doesn't deserve to wear a uniform.

Also, I agree with the verdict. Just because you're a tremendous pussy who doesn't understand what it takes to be an officer doesn't mean you're a murderer. This is more on the department than anything hiring this 200 pound walking pussy.

There could have been better direction given by the officer. Maybe a keep your hands on the wheel or something, but it all happened very quickly and the cop doesn't know you are reaching for you wallet and not the firearm.
