you.

Don't even kid about that. I'd take a super car over a super model any day of the week. Not a Porsche, but a real super car.

Yeah because a 918 is not a super car.

Yeah, she's only 16. And, again, I don't think the suit is completely devoid of merit. Let's just wait to see what the facts are.

Meadow Walker, 16, alleges the German automobile manufacturer took safety shortcuts while loading the Porsche Carrera GT with a 605-horsepower engine capable of up to 205 mph and marketing it as a race car licensed for the road.

According to the complaint, Porsche AG knew the Carrera GT had a history of instability but failed to add a control system to address that issue. It also installed the model's seat belts in such a way that when the car fractured on impact, the shoulder belt anchor was yanked along with the rear engine compartment while the seat belt anchor stayed put.

So they built a car that is supposed to go fast, but it's (allegedly) not safe to drive fast?

She'll get to a jury. And even if they put 10% liability on Porsche, the lost future wages alone on Paul Walker at 10% would be in the millions.

What car is "safe" to drive fast? Even custom built race cars aren't safe to drive fast. Driving fast is never a safe activity. Driving fast in a car with 9 year old tires is neither safe or smart. Not sure how you can blame the car for the neglect of its driver.

I'm just referring to the allegations that I quoted. Failing to address stability issues, if true, get that case to a jury. People are posting here like it's a summary judgment issue, but the allegations quoted suggest that Porsche knew the vehicle might have had some safety/stability issues. Also, I was suggesting that a jury could put 90% liability on the shitty driver and Porsche only 10% and it would still be a million dollar verdict against Porsche given the high economic damages for a deceased Paul Walker.

And I would use the same logic again. Don't all cars have a stability issue once the coefficient of friction is surpassed? I guess I'm just too dense to see how this is even 10% Porsche's fault.

Manufactures of cars capable of these speeds could be found liable for failing to take reasonable precautions to prevent the rupture and ignition of fuel upon crashing. In this instance, apparently, Porsche could have installed a fuel safe cell (as I understand it ... a rubber bladder to prevent a leak upon impact) which is often found on high speed or racing cars. If Porsche knew or had reason to know of an issue of their cars igniting upon impact within reasonable speeds, a jury could find that they should have implemented some of these technologies in their product (even if it added $10K on to a $200K car).

We'll have to wait for the facts to come out on the nature of the crash and relative safety of the product prior to making a determination on liability.

And this is why we can't have nice/fun things.

Drooling, mouth breathing liability lawyers just sitting around dreaming of collecting their 33% when someone dies of their own stupidity.

My daily driver is capable of going just as fast as the Porsche was when it wrecked. Should GM have installed a fuel safe cell in my car? If I crash and burn out of my own stupidity going 90mph, way above any posted speed limit, is GM liable for that?

well, considering the amount of support that Walker would have given her, there is no way the party at fault, the driver, or his estate(since he died too) or insuror would be able to cover the judgment, so sue the deep pocket, Porche.

If people pay $200,000+ for a sports car, I assume they expect the manufacturer to take reasonable precautions to ensure an accident didn't trap and burn their customers alive. Again... I know very little about this actual case... a jury should decide this case.

[Just an example and not the actual fact's of Paul Walker's crash...]

Would you feel differently if the Plaintiffs could prove this was a known issue and it happened on crashes with speeds as low as 30mph? Or they knew the type of metal that they used could cause a spark next to the fuel tank upon a side impact at any speed?

This is why, after hearing all the facts, a jury will decide the comparative fault of the manufacturer, the driver, and/or Paul Walker, himself.

I just think people here are jumping to conclusions without knowing the facts.
