Parents of Young Children: Kindergarten Graduation

Our school doesn't do a Kindergarten Graduation and it has created quite the ruckus. I really don't have an opinion one way or another, but was curious if other schools in the region have stopped this practice.

If it's the pictures you want, Buy the gown and make a diploma yourself.

I never understood why there are pre k and kindergarten ceremonies. It's dumb. But hell I really don't care one way or another whether it's done or not.

Kindergarten graduations are ceremonial participation trophies.

they need to have it! This may be the only graduation most of those kids ever have

When did Kindergartens start having graduations? Just curious. I know I didn't have one when I was that age.

I had one, I thought it was dumb back then. I got gifts from people, so I didn't raise much of an issue with it.

I didn't have one of these 23 years ago

I did in 1988

We did in the 80s. My wife's younger siblings did in the 90s. Like I said, I don't care either way - I do tend to think they are a little "everyone gets a trophy," but apparently a bunch of housewives have declared that it is not fair that there will not be an actual ceremony and are raising hell at the school.

No no, that does not fit the OT's narrative.

We had awards days in every grade in elementary school. Is that what you're talking about? I was under the impression they still have these but I don't have a kid yet.

Of course they are. They obviously have nothing better to complain about
That or not having a ceremony is gonna not allow them to post a million pictures of their child in a cap and gown on fb. Or try to mimic the "oh so adorable" Kindergarten graduation party decorations they saw on Pinterest.

No they had full graduation ceremonies with caps and gowns just like high school and college. It's retarded, mine was in 85.

If I'm spending 15k to send him to Kindergarten then I better have a graduation ceremony!
