Our little boy is just over 3 months and last night he woke us up to a stuffy nose and a lot of coughing and sneezing. Sounded like he would stop breathing. Took him almost 2 hours to get settled down. Wife says he has a mild fever this morning but is actually doing OK, talking his head off.

Hate it. The way they look at you like "please fix this". You feel completely helpless, even if it's a minor thing like the sniffles.

It does suck, especially when you can tell that they are not feeling well, but you do not know what is wrong. You kinda feel helpless.

I guess if you're a hands-off father, sure. That would put a crimp in your schedule.

a dead baby

eta: I assume the downvotes are from people who prefer a dead baby to a sick one.

Try having two little ones with the flu, at the same time. My wife was by herself having to deal with them and work while I was out of state during the whole adventure. She got very little sleep for a week. Both had flu shots also, and still got the flu

Wait till a 24 stomach bug is passed around to the whole house. It took 3 days to get to 6 people and it wasn't very fun at all. Not to mention that it hit almost everyone during the night.

it does completely suck. GET A NOSE FRIDA - way better than the bulb things at getting that congestion out. Saline a minute or two before you do it an it will help the little guy a bunch. Good luck!

Yeah our little boy just turned 5 months old and he's been in the hospital 3 times already. Spent probably 2 weeks total.

Lil dude is a trooper though and as long as you were there loving on him he was still as happy as can be.

Yeah, we tried that bulb and we think we got a lot of it, but man, did he scream. I'll have to check that out.

this!!!

It's super suckage when both mom and baby are sick at the same time.

but to the original point, my son, who is two and a half, was constipated and couldn't understand why he couldn't poop and he wouldn't let the wife give him an enema and we didn't want to force him for obvious reasons.

Anyway, he started running around the house at a full sprint, crying and screaming --like he was trying to outrun the butt pain. It was so sad.

Finally he willingly let mom do the suppository and nature took it's course, but damn it was rough seeing him so miserable and confused.

The worst is sub 6-months when they don't have a lot of their immunizations and they can't take a lot of drugs. Each of our kids spent a weekend in the PICU, our daughter with a UTI and our son with RSV. It is pretty nerve wracking until they can communicate what really is hurting them.

Appreciate the tip. The bulb has never worked very well for us. The saline up the nose is always a fun adventure with our 1 year old.

We're first time parents of an infant, but not super freaking out. Wife is a nurse and usually has her head on straight about that kind of stuff. On my own, would have probably been to the ER by the first cry like an idiot.

Buy Buy baby has them for sure, but I am sure other places do as well. Call the pediatrician and see if it is ok to use saline drops (made for infants) in his nose. It really helps to break up the stuff so you can get it out.

Is he in daycare yet?

Nothing in this world can terrify you like your kids when something is wrong with them. I remember when my son was that age he'd get stridor which is like a really bad case of croup. Every time he'd get this it would scare the every loving shite out of me. Hope you don't have to go through this with you little fella and hope he gets better quick.
