re: Painted kitchen cabinets?

I had cabinets like that and just painted them with the Rustoleum cabinet refinish kit. We went with the black, and skipped the decorative glaze. Looks 10 million times better than it used to, and can be done in a day if you are really ambitious. I'd recommend giving it a weekend though.

I don't really keep up with this stuff, but I read the other day that after a pretty long run where solid white cabinets were in vogue, natural wood finishes were becoming popular again.

we painted ours similar to what you're thinking of and they looked great. Changed the whole look of the kitchen. We painted them and then sealed them.

paint seems to be the trend
this old house or similar show did that very thing
can't remember what they used....but it had texture to it...and looked pretty good when the job was done.

My wife recently did this exact thing. She used the Rustoleum Cabinet Transformations kit from Home Depot. She picked the Federal Gray color. I was skeptical at first but it really looks good. It is a lot of work and will take you a few days to complete it. Just make sure you do all of the steps and wait for each coat to dry and you should be fine.

I'd like to see that.

I want to paint them a cream color and antique them.
That's exactly what my wife did to our cabinets. I wish I had before and after pics.

Ok y'all have convinced me to paint. Now just have to convince my husband. I think he's worried that since it took me several weeks to do the bathroom (smaller area), it'll take me a couple months to do this. But I learned a lot about the prep process, plus it's much easier to paint vs stain. And too, I'm kind of the project queen in his mind. I do take on a lot of projects in the name of improving our house/life, and sometimes it can get out of hand, but I'm currently project free.

We are trying to get this done at our house as well. I wanted to paint them ourselves but there a laminate cover on the cabinets and I'm not sure how to paint that correctly.
We got our first quote and it was $1200 which was about 400-500 more than I was expecting/hoping for (our kitchen isn't that big) so now I'm considering doing it ourselves again.
Anybody ever tried to paint cabinets with a laminate cover? Is it hard? What's the trick?

I like the look of cream cabinets too.
Ours are Sherwin Williams - Creamy White semi-gloss.

Countertops are gray bleck fleck stone, backsplash is tan tile, walls are terra cotta orange.
Mine was simular, after we painted the cabinets the wall color had to be changed as well.
I removed the doors and lighly sanded them outside the house and sprayed them with a cheap spray gun from Harbor freight, my wife sanded the frames and painted them in place.
During the job I had a cabinet guy come make an alteration to raise the microwave so it would sit flush with the cabinet bottoms and he could not believe they had not been removed, sprayed, and baked.
Take your time it is not that difficult.

Just rough it up a bit, the paint will never realize that it is being placed on a laminate.

Never used a spray gun before, I'm worried it'll look like crap. My plan was to brush the paint on and roll over it with a foam roller to make it smooth. No idea if that'll work either though.

We just finished renovating our kitchen. I I prefer painted cabinets, but only if professionally done.
IMO, it's not the honey oak finish of the cabinets that takes away from the kitchen in the picture. It's the flooring and backsplash that screws up that kitchen. If your cabinets are in that good of shape, I'd work around them and fix something else that highlights them.

My wife used some sort of special roller on the frames, in reality it looked as good as what I sprayed.
Not sure what the roller pads were called but Home Depot and the local Ace both had them.
We used cabinet paint from Ace as well, had used it previously in a bathroom on cabinrts and it worked well.

no offense but what does this even mean?
How in the holy hell would you even begin to know who painted them if done correctly?
