Paging Napoleon: Whirlpool double oven won't unlock or turn on after self clean

Help a brother out, oven went into self clean the other night and would not shut off or unlock. Cut the power at the breaker and turned the power back on after a bit. Oven still will not unlock and now won't turn on. I can not get a model number without the top door unlocking. Is there is a trick to opening it? I have searched the internet and it seems like a common problem with whirlpool and self cleaning burning out the thermostat fuse. How much would a repair guy usually charge to come out for that if I can not figure out this door lock?

Give me a model number and I can help you better.
Any company is going to charge a diagnostic fee then repair cost to fix it.
On many models there is a "trick" to open it.
If it's the thermal fuse and that's it, you are looking at about $150 for repair. (and up)
(figure most big companies charge $89-109 for a service call we charge $59)
Blue book actually says $205 on the thermostat change but that's generic and not with the part number in there.

thinking about it, you probably can't get to the model number.
Let me look up some generic tips to open the doors and I'll post it.
Also, my advice to everyone is never ever ever use self clean.
It causes a lot of issues.
this thread on this website here will walk you through the probelm and show you the part you need to change.

Appreciate it, If you worked the northshore I would let you handle it. Youtube videos make it seem like a simple repair tho, I just get aggravated with appliances.

Turn off the circuit breaker for the oven.
Open the lower oven door. Remove the screw holding the each side trim (#1 on the oven break down diagram) and remove both side trims by pulling them from the bottom toward yourself and down to release from the control panel tabs.
Remove the screw on each side of the control panel. Pull the bottom of the control panel toward yourself and upward to release it from the side tabs.

There is the thermal fuse plugged in the control board which has to be replaced.
If you have Amazon your fuse is $14 shipped PRIME. My wholesale cost is higher.

Awesome thank you for the help, I was about to drag the whole oven out from the wall.

Had this issue myself recently. Not a Whirlpool though. But the automatic locking mechanism that's on the oven door when you put it to self clean broke from the high heat due to the cleaning. Couldn't unlatch it so I straightened out a coat hanger and through the 1 inch i was able to open the door just slid the locking mechanism to the unlock position. Thought this might be applicable to your situation as well.

If you get the control panel off and just jump the thermal fuse it just unlocks on a whirlpool with no chance of damage to the unit. On frigidaire and GE I usually pry it open with a tool (like a coat hanger)
