I was out of state too. The frat improved my social life immediately and continues to do so 30 years later. Mine has a very active alumnae society and we old farts still get together frequently.

Was in the same boat as a freshman. It was so easy to meet people/make friends at LSU. Just get out and get involved.

Going greek helps (cue pay for friends jokes) but as a heads up, if you go that route, you may need to do some research. The southern greek system is a lot different than it is up there.

Legit answer... no its not tough. Talk to people, go to events, participate in class, don't be a tool/weirdo or try too hard and ull be fine

Make friends in your classes. Not just people you can call when you miss class, but actual friends that you like and can hang out with. I didn't learn this until my junior year, and when I did, my grades skyrocketed. There's something to be said for hanging out with people who can provide a level of competition, motivation, and help. I'm from Arkansas and didn't know anyone else here when I came down. I made good friends with a guy as I was unloading stuff from my car when I just arrived here. I kind of regret not living in dorms, but it wasn't an option for me.
