Apparently your triceps are really weak. Did you just start working out?

Exhaust your triceps with extensions then go directly to wide grip bench press. Pre-exhaust principle.

Huh... I'll try that. Will that have me too weak for bench?

Lower your weight. Honestly, you should do push ups for awhile to get into bench pressing shape if you just started.

Go with dumbbell presses. Get your contractions right and youll definitely hit your chest instead of triceps..

No, he should pre exhaust his chest with flys then go do presses. Pre exhausting his triceps will make things worse as his chest won't get any work, IMO.

The bar is on tracks if that means anything.

I'm going to go to free weights and do triceps before I work my chest

I started lifting about a month ago and this is a new trend that started on Thursday

this is just my humble opinion, but i would build up a little more strength before going to free weights. i feel like it's much easier to have bad form and develop bad habits with the free weights. if you're gonna bench, the smith machine (what you're using) is probably best to start out

If you're just starting, forget about preexhausting stuff. Just keep adding weight to your bench when you can. Also, lean forward while doing dips. Maybe finish up with a dumbbell flys/dumbbell press superset to really hit the pecs.

When I lost a lot of weight 5 yrs ago, I started with just doing cardio for a few weeks. Then did machines for a month, then started free weights. I started with light weight, kept a book to track what I was doing and gradually increased my weight. Good luck.

I had the same issue. Do bar bell press and arch your back some. Really concentrate on form and feel your chest contact with each rep. Super set it with some push ups to help. Also, cable flys wil burn like a beast if you do it right and go slow and really feel the burn.

you tried some decline bench press?....if that doesn't get the chest involved, you are just having some form problem...

be shure that when your shoulders come forward, they press down, too....

Just my opinion...

Your grip is too wide causing you to push outward which is isolating your triceps.

Go with lighter weight, bring your grip in closer, slow down your rep and focus pushing the bar up by contracting your chest muscles.

Once you get your technique right and then start increasing your weight and grip width.

You should feel that squeeze in your chest each rep.

You have to get your bi's, tri's, and forearms stronger so you can hold enough weight to build other muscle.

It takes months to get your muscles built to the same level to push and pull the way you want to
