P-3's would get tired of flying over our location attempting to find us - would request us to broach and commence snorkel to find our location...then would request us to go deep so they could find us.....

I remember doing ASW exercises and the CO telling us to beat on the hull with wrenches and slam deck plates to make noise b/c they couldn't find us.

I also remember trying to sleep with a P-3 dropping some kind of sonar shite all around us... this loud BEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRPPPPPPPP pinging noise bouncing off the goddamn hull for hours.

Yeah got to roam the missile field in a Hmmwv for a few days at a time. Sounds alot better than standing at a guard shack for hours on end.

Well in my defense I was not a 19D long. When I got to Germany they had a shortage of 19K's and were doing a MOSQ school for 19K and a chance at early promotion to E-4 for successfully completing the course. I jumped at the chance for the early promotion without a second thought.

Did my last Tank Table VIII there back in the mid-90's. Out in the middle of the missile range at Eglin there's a tank range and a Ranger school, or at least there was back then.
