we just gave him some rice and he ate it up. Don’t really give them people food but Google told me rice would be good lol.

The more I watch him the more I think he might be fine but god I hate this.

We do this with our Shi Tzu per our vet, rice mixed half and half with chicken or high fat cooked hamburger. If no signs of malaise tonight you’re probably good till morning.

Our little guy likes to eat leaves and dirt, he also throws up water occasionally. Vet says it’s due to nausea, we have a script for that.

Good luck, hope he’s well soon.

To gauge blood loss, check their gums. When they go white, straight to ER. If they are still pink, wait until morning.

Not a vet, but married to one.

I would never tell someone to wait on the vet or a doctor I would feel like shite if things went south. If you have the money I would say consider it like this, if the vet visit were free would you go now if so I would go. If nothing is wrong peace of mind is worth something, if something is wrong catching it early could be important. I have to be on death's door or have a part of me detached to go to the ER but my dogs can't talk.

I had a vet once advise slippery elm bark for our lab who got into something that was making her throw up a lot (no blood though). She said it would soothe the lining of the stomach and intestines and help with irritation.

Don't know if it is right for your situation but you may want to ask your vet about using slippery elm for future sensitive stomach issues.

Good luck with pup!

He’s going to the vet in the morning for sure but just seeing if I might need to take him to the ERr vet. He’s acting normal and playful.

100 percent morning. He'll be fine. ER vets are fricking obscene.

We’re fortunate with the skin issues with both of ours. My dogs brother (my nieces dog) has bad allergies. I mean his eyes, face, belly are always red and he itches like crazy. Benadryl is like the only thing that helps him. I’m not sure if she’s tried a medical shampoo.

Mine hasn’t had any stomach issues, he doesn’t really get into anything and I don’t ever give him my food.

But I’ve switched his food a few times without issue. Just the skin problems.

Here is my dude I adopted.

I know your dog stays inside your house but when I was young I had a boxer bulldog. One morning I work to blood drops all over the back porch like he had been cut or eaten up by coyotes. When he finally came home it was dripping from his genitals. Apparently he had eaten a bone and it had gotten lodged in his stomach. He lived but man I was scared for him

Hasn’t thrown up again and as far as I can tell his gums look pretty pink. Thank you! This one makes me feel better.

My dog is 14 and has had stomach problems on and off its whole life.
95% of the time throwing up and pooping a little blood is not a huge deal for her. It’s just inflammation of the stomach. If your dog is acting normal otherwise I’d monitor overnight and bring your dog in the morning.

One time, our dog was vomiting large volume of blood and very unwell. She had pancreatitis. If left untreated that can be lethal. She recovered, but only because we acted fast. I will say, if your dog had these symptoms you wouldn’t be questioning whether to bring it in.

My instinct tells me you can wait until the morning. But watch overnight and bring in if symptoms worsen.

Yea it’s a tough ask on my part. Money is not that big of an issue but man our last ER vet visit was like 2-3k and our dog didn’t make it. I mean that wouldn’t stop me, hence me making the thread, but it does give me a little pause. Wouldn’t be fair to my dog to let that hold me up. Just was hoping to never have to go back there.

He looks like a good boy. The lilac and tan color is so pretty imo. High maintenance and hard headed breed but man they are good dogs.

our vet said blood fully digested is usually black
so red bloody poop is from the bowel
red bloody puke is from the digestive tract

I know this to be true from my own personal experience as a human, completely unrelated to my spouse's profession.

Sounds like what happens to my dog. Our vet told us the blood & mucous is just from gut inflammation when she gets an upset stomach. I took her to two different docs to make sure I wasn’t missing anything, and both agreed she just has a sensitive stomach. I had her on royal canine for a while which was a pain in the arse because my other dog wanted to eat it as well, and it’s too expensive for that. We switched to Purina (salmon flavor) and she’s been doing fine with that for 6 years now. She does great with salmon food & treats. She’s severely allergic to chicken and anything with chicken by-product.

Ask your vet about the pepcid. We give a 25 mg tablet (she’s about 60 lbs) and it gives her relief.

It took almost a year to figure out what was wrong with her, but she’s 8 now and happy & healthy

You should go to vet.

Also, you should consider surgery for extended soft palate. Will really help breathing.

Hope he's OK!

A little late for now, but in the future pet insurance for just emergencies comes in handy. We pay $27 a month and were reimbursed a few thousand dollars on 2 separate occasions.

pancreatitis

There is a test for this. Eating and drinking is a good sign. My dog had pancreatitis and refused to eat or drink, also vomited blood and had blood in stool. Good luck hope your dog is ok. Please give an update.
