OT Runners: Cold, Rainy Weather

I've been agonizing over the weather tomorrow for the Houston marathon. It looks like there will be some rain with temps between 49-50 degrees. Normally I would consider this perfect running conditions except that the wind will be somewhere around 15mph as the front comes through.

I'm debating on what to wear - specifically a long sleeve or short sleeve tech shirt. I've got my one dollar poncho for the starting line, but not sure what to wear for the race. Absent the wind and rain I would normally have a short sleeve shirt on and would assume over that far of a distance I won't be cold anyway. However, the wind chill appears to be in the mid 40's. I'm not sure how the rain impacts that number. Any recommendations?

Join a gym with an indoor track or buy one of these neat inventions called treadmills. If you don't like foul weather, it's the best way to make sure you don't cheat out of exercising by making up a stupid excuse.

I wish I could help. You'll probably be burning up towards the end of the marathon. If it was a shorter distance (I only runn5ks.) I'd say the long sleeve is a good idea. Don't know how you'll feel after a marathon though

Good luck!

Wow. You absolutely fail at reading comprehension.

I'm running the Houston marathon tomorrow. I'm asking for advice on what clothing (long or short sleeve, etc) people would recommend in cold, rainy, windy weather. Nice try though.

I have another interesting running question: anybody ever ran a 1/2 or full marathon and lost a toenail? One of my little toenails like came completely off. It's not bloody or anything but it feels weird and I don't want to mess anything up. WWTOT runners do?

Check your shoes because something isn't fitting correctly (not enough room for your toes).

Your nail should grow back.

What's your height and weight? This will help us a lot.

Take a stab at it cause this is what I'd do; if you are over 230, you can easily get by just by wearing a cut-off, half shirt and head band. Just enough to keep you warm and easily adjustable as you heat up.

Have a great run! .

If it's windy, you probably want long sleeves. I also recommend running gloves. Also, make sure to put Vaseline on your nipples to avoid chafing.

Layers of tech shirts. Short sleeve under long if you can hand it off to someone along the route if you get to warm ( you will). I started with a crappy cotton long sleeve and just tossed it.

I assume if you are training for a marathon you already know to tape your nipples or put that roll on shit!!

Were bleeding nipples always an issue for runners or just are now due to dry tech shirt type technology?

I always run in shorts and a tech tshirt no matter the weather. Ill be cold at the start but it works out. The only thing ill add is gloves if its cold. My hands never seem to warm up and cold hands are miserable. More importantly have somethi g warm to put on at the finish. Giantkiller - I've heard of many people having this problem.

Wear a crappy long shirt and gloves and dump them when you get warm. At 50 degrees, even with wind, you'll be hot in a long sleave shirt relatively quickly.

Good luck
