I now read the thread and see where most people are saying not to raise the blinds. That works too. We just always raised them after a few hours because by that time we were getting liquored up and wanted to get more action.

Raising them when people want to is obviously fine, I was saying there shouldn't be a house rule about it. We also usually ended up raising them when everyone was hammered.

Since that isn't going to happen who gets the pot at the end of the night?

The pot builds until somebody hits it.

What's so funny? Tons of casinos have a bad beat pot.

And for those mentioning cash on the table, that's a bad idea. No cash out in view. Chips only.

Bad bleat jackpots are a good way to turn a legal game into an illegal game fast. Cash game rules state you can leave at any time but you can't "go south" or take money off the table.

Blinds should not go up unless the game is too small. That is what makes cash games differ from tournament poker. Also blinds are not paid by cash players who stand up or miss hands. Unless they miss a blind, then they must pay it before receiving a new hand.

No way would I do a community deal. We have 3-4 guys who can deal and 10-12 drunks who I don't want taking 30 minutes to play 1 hand.

If you've got lots of capable dealers just put 2 on opposite sides and swap every hour.

If you want it to be a friendly game and allow for new people I'd definitely have people come in at a lower option than $100 to start. If people are starting out buying in $400 what happens when your buddy loses QQ to AA for $400 in the first 20 minutes, and is in for $800 by 8:30.

I'm always prepared with at least 5 max buy-ins so for your game I'd need to bring $2k.

They also have hundreds of people playing 24/7/365 and it may hit every few months.

Where I play, it is a 1-3 NLH game. $100 minimum with max being 75% of big stack after play starts. You could set an opening buy in max of $500.

If you go smaller stakes, play 50 cent $1 blinds with min buy in at $20 and max at 100% of big stack.

Definitely make everyone buy chips to play. Also have some change ready especially if you play smaller stakes.

Play until you are ready to close up shop and like someone said, give a 30 min notice before ending it.

Just remember to have fun and not blow all of your rent money.

I've largely stopped playing poker. Got tired of the bad beats. Plus, the money in blackjack has been good lately. Made $2500 over New Years in Biloxi.

Nice. The next time you come to DFW, let me know and will play some poker. I'm horrible at blackjack.

It is all about that 1/3 now. We also have insurance where I play and it brings another dynamic to the game.

Same if you're in Augusta, though unless it's the Masters I don't know why you would be.

We have a few cash games around here...usually around 8 guys playing. We buy our chips using increments of .25, .50, 1, 5, and later on 10 dollar chips. We start out with an initial buy in of anywhere from $20 - $50 with unlimited re-buys. We usually don't set a time limit, buy play so much that everybody pretty much knows when we usually end, with rare exceptions to the case.

Our only rule is that you need to give a set time warning before you leave if you are up big(say after a big pot) unless you have previously declared what time you are leaving. We usually say you need to declare you are leaving a half hour in advance if you have to leave earlier or later than you had originally planned that way nobody wins a big pot and immediately hauls arse with everybody's money. At least stay for a few rounds about the table, even if all you do is contribute blinds...which happens sometimes. Those people just usually don't get invited back.

We are a pretty close group of friends and aren't cutthroat or anything, but nobody likes the guy who gets lucky on one huge hand and hauls arse taking most of the money to be won off of the table. Now if they have been steadily winning hands and accommodating a chip lead over the night, that's different. If you want to build some bigger pots with more people involved, play a few rounds of Omaha or something where alot of good hands can be made. In a game like that, players who don't play much will lose alot of money really quick.

I'm not an OT baller so here is my family/friend version of what I do at my house about once a month. Twenty dollar buy in. One rebuy only. Blinds increase every 30 minutes. No cash on table, chips only. Tourney style, winner take all. $200+ pot everytime.
