I have zero problems with sharpness using mine with no IS. You have to remember to first rule, shutter speed needs to be equal to/greater than the FL, or the image will be soft.

I understand, but I don't have steady hands like I used to and I was shooting at night with low light conditions. The day/dusk photos were fine, actually terrific. It was an outside wedding spanning "magic hour" but as evening fell I kept slowing the shutter speed down and eventually put that body and lens back in the truck and stayed with the 50 and 35 on the other two bodies.

Yes, I should have speed lights on all the bodies but I only have two 580's
